It’s one hex of an attraction in this romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Jessica Clare.

When Reggie Johnson answers a job ad in the paper, she’s astonished to find that she’s not applying to work at her favorite card game, Spellcraft: The Magicking. Instead, she’s applying to be an actual familiar for an actual witch. As in, real magic.

The new job has a few perks—great room and board, excellent pay, and she's apprenticing to a powerful witch. Sure, the witch is a bit eccentric. And sure, there was that issue with the black cat Reggie would prefer to forget about. The biggest problem, however, is warlock Ben Magnus, her employer's nephew and the most arrogant, insufferable, maddening man to ever cast a spell.

Reggie absolutely hates him. He's handsome, but he's also bossy and irritating and orders her around. Ben's butt might look great in a crystal ball vision, but that's as far as it goes. But when someone with a vendetta targets the household, she finds herself working with Ben to break a deadly curse. Apparently, when they're not fighting like cats and dogs, things get downright...bewitching.

Critic reviews

"Go Hex Yourself is one of those books: the ones you read even though you should be getting ready for work; the ones you cannot help telling your friends about; the ones that make you giggle out loud on the bus; the ones that are so addictively charming, engaging, cinematic, you just cross your fingers and hope someone will turn them into a movie. And that’s because Go Hex Yourself is a romantic masterpiece, and the sexiest, most bewitching take on enemies to lovers I’ve read in ages. I want to live in the worlds Jessica Clare creates, and I cannot wait for her next book."—Ali Hazelwood, New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis

"In this breezy paranormal rom-com from bestseller Clare (Holly Jolly Cowboy), an intense young woman trying to pay off family debts finds a job with unexpected erotic side benefits. Fans of Katie MacAlister and Annette Blair will be pleased."Publishers Weekly

“The snarky banter and paranormal elements make for a fun, otherworldly romance with plenty of heart.”Washington Independent Review of Books

Witch love!

Although it has the vibe of a Fan-Fic rom-com, I could care less. Guess I'm a sucker for a enemy's to lovers trope! Definitely got me into the spooky season!

Perfectly lighthearted, cute, and not annoying

I absolutely loved this book! The storyline was fun, interesting, and moved at a good pace. The voice actors did a wonderful job. I even laughed out loud a few times. This book is perfect for a pick-me-up, palate cleanser, or if you’re feeling in a rom-com mood. Mild spice but also cute. I really can’t think of anything that was annoying.

Couldn’t finish

I was enjoying the story line but the male voice actor is insufferable. He’s essentially growling the whole time and being way too moody and intense for what he’s reading. I think I’d enjoy this story if I read it but listening to him is too much.

Cute, witchy, enemies to lovers

A cute, witchy, enemies to lovers! Reggie doesn’t believe in witchcraft and this entire book is a bit of an adventure while Caliban (Ben) and Aunt Drue try to convince her it is, indeed real. This book is full of familiars, tablets, and spell casting. It has humor, spice & a adoring HEA! Perfect read for October 💜

So funny!

This book is fantastic! I love the premise of a woman applying for a job that she thinks has to do with a magical card game, and instead finds herself a familiar to an actual witch. Now if she can only come to terms that magic is real and that she’s falling in love with a warlock.

Bewitchingly fun

Cute story with a found family feel. The banter was splendid. Ben was such a great book boyfriend and I loved how we got his pov! Can’t wait to continue reading about Penny!

Fun

The beginning was rough but the character and the story improved. I enjoyed it. I will probably read the next one.

Cute story.

I like how they did the spell casting and called on different gods to do different things./spellwork. The story was cute and entertaining. I bought this and didn’t know it was spicy, which was a fun surprise but it kept it classy so it just added to the fun. Characters were relatable and realistic.

Flat chested freckle fixation and a neat freak

Pros: Fun grumpy-sunshine romance with a magic element. There’s a nice cast of supporting characters from a gay roommate (who thankfully is not the jazz hands drama queen ubiquitous in romances), to a cursed cat and a charmingly eccentric aunt. I enjoyed the ongoing bit about his freckles fascination and her neat freak obsession.

Cons: narrator Eiden (aka Teddy Hamilton) is great for the growly voice of Ben, but egads his female voices fizzle my sizzle. The story starts to drags as the magic and humor elements dry up, replaced by an entirely predictable mystery and an underwhelming conflict involving Reggie and her leech parents.
I was weirded out by one sex scene that was obsessed with gushing about her flat chest and scrawny, boyish physique (fortunately it was just the one, and I do respect this author for not giving us the same Barbie-bodied FMC in all her books).

Random things to know, when deciding if this is your thing: contrary to the cover art, this is not a cozy. There’s some F bombs and a few detailed (and non-missionary) sex scenes. Some reviewers said this was Reylo romance, but I disagree as Ben barely does anything evil … he’s just got a bad-boy reputation. The next book’s MCs are introduced here, and I enjoyed this enough to put that book into my wishlist.
