Publisher's summary

A rootless dryad in an urban jungle. Will his meditations on power awaken a once-mythical truth and shake the city with a deadly force?

Chicago. Tanin can’t dislodge a persistent unease. Working for a fae civil rights icon, the young human-shaped tree stays busy pumping unseen tendrils of magic into Earth’s stale ground. But a fraught encounter with a wil-o-the-wisp reveals the dark side of his zealous mentor… and endows him with a mysterious new ability.

Tuan has trouble deciding if he should panic or celebrate. Once a humble bike courier, he realizes constant contact with a weird faerie composting business has left him able to see through their glamor and into the astral plane. But when the vivid colors and amazing sights start to overwhelm his mind, he turns to the anxious eucalyptus dryad for help.

Stunned to discover that mortal employees have been disappearing and dying for months, Tanin digs into the darker aspects of Gaia’s guidance. And while helpful spirit guides show Tuan how to master his mental gifts, his physical body is still spiraling out of control.

Will their desperate attempts to do good poison the planet forever?

The Fae Conspiracy is the mystical first book in The Fae Town Series of urban fantasies. If you like spontaneous fun, intriguing symbolism, and environmental themes, then you’ll love Kevin Knabe’s imaginative adventure.

Fae and human acceptance story.

Prepare to have your mind opened and have to think about Fae integration in a new way. Opening up the world and forcibly adding magic to it. Overall, it's a good story. I would have liked to see much more world building. The characters are well developed, but I feel kinda wanting when it comes to the rest of the world as a whole.

Good narration, I had to speed it to x1.2 because it was a slower story for me.

I was given this book at my request for an honest review.

Distopian Fae

At times the story felt more like social commentary about the environment. I didn't get an overall light-hearted vibe, but there were a few humorous parts. The story had a new take on the way Fae and humans coexist. I liked the variety of Fae creatures included, and the secrets uncovered as the mystery evolved.

Oliver Wyman narrated the story. His performance was great, and I always knew who was speaking since he gave each character a different voice.

A complex urban fantasy

Received as an audio review copy from Story Origin, this is and honest review. Nicely narrated by Oliver Wyman, The Fae Conspiracy is a quirky, intense urban fantasy that contemplates how humanity would handle if they suddenly discovered the mythical and creatures were actually real. And while plenty embraces the weird complex relationships that come with those unique creatures; others aren't so sure if down right cruel. And what happens to Tanin comes to demonstrate that even the magical creatures have their own vices and dangers that are catastrophic if allowed to exist. One issue is I felt the story runs a little long and could have wrapped much sooner; but an interesting adventure to be sure.

Recommended.

A New Perspective on Fae

This was my first experience with Kevin Knabe's work, and it was interesting. I liked the fresh perspective towards those paranormal creatures that are known as Fae. I admired the symbolism and environmental themes that were found in this tale. I got a little lost during all the changing characters' narratives. Oliver Wyman's narration was good, and I enjoyed the different voices that he provided for the various characters. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Fae Magic versus recycling

A complex story of fae magick, Mother Nature, and destiny. Tanin is a dryad whose job is to infuse fae magick into the world to heal Mother Nature. However, something changes, and Tanin has new powers that expose the lies and truths of the elder dryads who work for Newgrowth. Truths that hold deadly consequences at least for Chicago!

The author, Kevin Knabe, weaves a complex story with unique characters. The storyline clearly focuses on the environment and why we should be more diligent in protecting the earth blending the tale with myth and fantasy-based characters and behaviors. Tanin and Tuan are the two main characters, and it is their connection and needs for one another that reveals the hidden truth of Newgrowth. The coexistence of fae and humans is nicely done as well. Knabe has masterfully crafted a tale utilizing several different genres – fantasy, myth/legend, environmentalism, and adventure. He does so artfully and successfully.

The narrator, Oliver Wyman performs this book with a strong steady pace moving the story forward. He brings the book to life and adds to the excitement of the adventure. He spoke clearly and concisely with unique voices for all.
Overall, this is a great listen as it has so much adventure and action. However, one must pay attention to the details, or one can be lost for a moment or two.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.
