About this listen

At the age of 20, I never thought I'd have to make the choice between true love or my soul.

Then again, I never thought I'd be faced with any of the terrible, wonderful, impossible things that exist in Lyle Carraway's world. The vampire is a weakness I never even knew I had, and when he whispers promises of immortality and sensual luxury, it's more temptation than I can handle.

Good Catholic boys from small towns aren't supposed to make deals with the devil, but I never counted on him being this hard to resist. Or being the key to the family I've always wanted. If I accept his forbidden gift and turn out to be a prized male omega, there's a chance I could bear his baby and his name.

Too bad my guilty conscience isn't the only force conspiring to keep us apart.

This is a standalone vampire mpreg romance and the first in a series.

Not bad, but too much religion

Typical vampire mpreg, but the religious overtones started to get distracting from the story. narrator also read with a slightly nerdy overtone which made the romance feel a bit fake. 3/5

A sweet guilty pleasure

I received this book of my own free will for an honest review.

This one was actually pretty fun, it began chaotically but it evolved into so much more, Henry was such a sweetheart really, trying to understand everything.

The conflicts between vampires and hunters are as old as vampires tales but the twist with this one was pretty nice actually.

By the end of the story I was so happy and wanting more of Leo and Henry love story that I would actually try to get the other ones, they're interesting in their own way.

A different take on vampires

Henry is a young Catholic gay man. He hasn't really explored his sexuality because of his Catholic upbringing. Working as a waiter at a party, he discovers that the guests are all vampires! While saving the life of a female vamp, Henry is mortally wounded. The vamp's brother Lyle saves Henry with his blood, making Henry his Omega.

A bit of a different take on vampire stories. Lyle and family all live together in a mansion. Lyle's family is very accepting of Henry and Lyle. The way they took care of him and treated him was totally unexpected based on other vampire stories.

Good narration helped the story along. It will be interesting to see where the story goes in the next books in the series.

Good story

Book is good. Has a good story line but some of the writing could be reviewed. Not sure if it's the writing or the voice actor. I enjoyed the book but had a hard time with the narrator. His voice would crack at several points and adds a weird twist to the way the story sounds. Would recommend a different voice over. Other than that, story is good and would recommend if you are looking to pass some time.

Good start to the series

A complimentary audio was provided in exchange for an honest review.

I am a huge fan of LC Davis and will always try one of their books. I also enjoy a good vampire story, toss in mpreg and i am IN. This story was about what i expected since it's short, which means it was well written with a good plot, but nothing deep or world changing. The relationship between the MCs starts off rough and i don't know exactly when it changed to real love and wanting to be together because they wanted to, but it was nice to see them together. The side characters seemed to be filler which eh, but they helped move the plot along.

Overall i enjoyed this and would recommend to those who aren't expecting anything new in vampire romance, and aren't afraid of mpreg.

The narration...wow. i very much enjoyed this narrator and will listen to him again. JJ got the emotions of the characters and when action was happening his voice showed the urgency or tension or passion. I definitely recommend this narrator.

Wowza!

I can somewhat recall having a love/hate relationship with LC Davis, but the blurb on this one was intriguing—vampires, omegas, mpreg...love it all. But I am absolutely blown away by what I actually got!

Guys, this is GOOD. It’s a unique storyline of its own despite the typical paranormal tropes being present. There’s some mystery, a good romance, great characters that you really get to know and love and an amazing HEA. And all this is accomplished within 5 hours (hallelujah!). This is actually so good that I had to get the Kindle version and finish it that way first because I needed to know what happened faster than the audio could provide. I think this is my first audio with JJ Jenness and I wasn’t disappointed there, either! He provided the perfect voice for Henry.

If I could change ONE thing (and it’s big enough that I would be okay if it extended the audiobook by an hour or so), it would be the steamy times. There are a couple scenes—not particularly descriptive (definitely could be better there), but I would have preferred more. I would say overall that they were tastefully done—it’s just my personal preference to have more hot and steamy m/m action. Either way, I’ve already downloaded the next audiobook in this series and hope there will be more!

Not bad

Mate stories are one of my favorites. Werewolves, vampires, shifters, and such. This was a great love story. I enjoyed the characters and their personalities. I had a difficult time getting past some inconsistencies with the story line, some editing mistakes, and some errors in the Audible reading. That is the main reason why I gave it only three stars. Overall, as my title says, not bad!

Enjoyable vampire Mpreg story

Enjoyable and entertaining vampire Mpreg story. The choice of JJ Janness as narrator provided a more light-hearted story in spite of the angst, danger, drama, betrayal, and blood-letting. It kept the story entertaining, and kept it from being a dark fantasy tale. The tit-for-tat strategies of the vampires and hunters seem destined to see a never-ending cycle of death and destruction, but maybe the mate choices of Lyle and his sister can change that. I liked that Lyle and his father respected Henry's beliefs and respected him enough to give him time to make his decision, instead of forcing a knee-jerk reaction and just killing him. I loved Henry's kindness and selflessness toward the people on both sides of the struggle, insisting that people not be hurt or killed. My only complaint about the story would be not hearing more of Lyle's thoughts and feelings. We learn pretty much everything that Henry is feeling, but all we know about Lyle's motivations comes from his father, until near the end when Lyle finally confesses how he feels.

The narration was more easy-going and perky, rather than dark and gloomy. Very enjoyable voices.
