About this listen

Dr. Ted Duffy has finally met a woman who makes him ache with desire. Too bad she's dating his best friend of twenty years. This simple premise has momentous consequences for Ted in The Fall, a story that explores the bonds of friendship, the expectations of family, and the power of love to unite and divide. Ted is a third-generation pediatric oncologist in Boston. He is 37 years old, married to his work, and considers his patients to be "his kids". He and his friends spend summer weekends in Newport, Rhode Island, which is the only break Ted allows himself from the grind of his job. After a devastating loss at work, he leaves for Newport where he meets his friend's new girlfriend, Caroline. Over that first weekend, Ted and Caroline fall in love. When they later act on their feelings, shock and disbelief ricochet through his tight-knit group of friends and family. A highly respected doctor, a beloved son and grandson, a loyal friend, Ted is stunned by his sudden free fall from grace.

Too much graphic sex

Struggled to finish. Not enough story and too much over described sex. Narrator is mediocre.

Great Book

Would you listen to The Fall again? Why?

It had a grat ending.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Ted was my favorite character because he was a honest man.

What does Holly Fielding bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice is so sweet. I like how she uses multiple voices and accents.

Who was the most memorable character of The Fall and why?

Lilian was the most memorable because she stood up for what she believed in.

Any additional comments?

The ending was the best part.

Struggle through performance

The narrator was boring. The story friendship, family, and boundaries were poignant. The performance really failed the story.

By far the worst narrator I have ever heard.

I couldn't even make it through the first chapter. please please please pick someone else for ALL other recordings.
I can't give any review of the story because I never got to hear it, but Marie Force is one of my favorite authors, so I'm sure it was excellent.
So disappointed right now, I was really looking forward to a few chapters of escapism :(

Completely unrealistic premise

Perhaps the premise of the story could have worked if the plot had spanned more time, but the intensity of the emotions and resulting reactions are completely unrealistic given what a short time they had known one another and - more importantly - how long the circle of friends had been together. The writing was lukewarm and the narrator's accents were laughable.

Don't Wate your time

What was most disappointing about Marie Force’s story?

This story was boring and went no where.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The Narrator is horrible! the voice changes for the charactures is ridiculous , She tries to make Ted or any other mans voice and he sounds like an old grandma instead of a handsome young guy he is supposed to be. She does the grandma like a southern accent it is like a 1st grade teacher is reading it to her class..

Not worth the credit

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I don't think anything could have saved this. The male lead was a whining jerk and the female should be used as an example of what not to put up with.

Has The Fall turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. I have a lot of Marie Force books that I really enjoyed. I just couldn't get behind any of the circle of friends.

How could the performance have been better?

I didn't care for this narrator. Didn't show much emotion but she also didn't have much to work with.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Fall?

I would totally rewrite the final scene. This was so bad I will be asking for my credit back. Will never want to hear this again.

Any additional comments?

This was such a disappointment since I enjoyed the books I've listened to by this author before.

THE FALL JUST KEPT FALLING UNTIL IT FLATLINED

Oh dear what a disappointment this was - firstly, there was hardly any descriptions to tie you into the story and make your mind light up with rolling mental images that play throughout the listen. The plot was so unrealistic it was laughable (H/H fall in love within 5 mins, engaged within 1 week and married... well I won't spoil it for any of you that are tempted). Some of the content was depressing as it touched on childhood Cancer and the devastation that brings. I couldn't relate to the hero or heroine and, when the sh*t hit the fan, she just took it and let him walk all over her and just waited for him - err now way no how... I'd of made him beg on bleeding knees for forgiveness.

Worth a credit? I had no clear picture of any of the characters or locations, there was no real romance but just a few lines here an there, there were four romances and it jumped back and forth unsuccessfully, the few sex scenes were tame so all this, coupled with the bland narration, forces me to say NO WAY worth a credit.... in fact I'm going to ask for a refund.
