I thought it was very well done. The main reason why they slowly became strangers is believable, and heartwrenching. Also, the resentment Susannah felt for years is so relatable. To make it short, the couple and their story were realistic, hence compelling AND sad.
The character development was interesting too. We have here people who have matured, and they now make some changes in their life because they understand their past mistakes.
My main complain is about the villains in the story. Sure, they were needed–external and internal conflicts in the relationship make for a more gripping read–but I found them a bit over the top. But once again, there was some truth in their behavior, though more on the pathological side.
The narrator did an amazing job, expressing all the nuances in the characters in the best possible way. A great audiobook!
