About this listen

'A really thrilling and totally original story of Greek mythology that I can't recommend highly enough' JENNIFER SAINT, author of Ariadne and Atalanta

'Lyrical, imaginative, visceral, urgent, moving, adventurous . . . brings The Fates startlingly back to life' SEAN LUSK, author of The Second Sight of Zachary Cloudesley

'Passionate, angry, empowering and beautiful' LOUISE BEECH, author of Nothing Else

Before Gods and mortals, there were The Fates . . .

You've heard the legends: three sisters born out of Nyx's darkness, destined to weave the lives, and deaths, of humankind for eternity.

But immortality is a heavy burden, and Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos are captivated by the gloriously human lives of the mortals below, especially those of the great warrior Atalanta and her ill-fated lover, Meleager.

However, being a Goddess of Fate doesn't make you a master of it. Will these three sisters find a way to free the couple, and themselves, from their destinies? Or will they be bound by Fate forever?

This story follows closely to Atalanta but not like you’ve heard it before. Don’t fret it is all explained. I love that it is a story of the Fates and their relationship with their mother! It also shows the less favorable side of Zeus which a lot of writers neglect to do. I absolutely loved it. The voice narration was also very calming. I can listen to this book while driving or right before bed. Loved every moment!

It was actually really hard to decide what to rate this title. First thing I want to acknowledge is that this is a very clever mythological retelling that I think many people will enjoy! I tend to be a bit picky but I would still recommend reading the book. I think my biggest issue is that I wanted a little bit more. To read a story of Atalanta without her sailing on the Argo (even though it was mentioned in passing at the beginning) was a little disappointing. But I think what I most felt was missing was how the changes made through this story affected humanity as a whole not just women. I feel like it cheapened Meleager’s story a little by not exploring more about his experience especially in the end. If the book had solely been from Atalanta’s perspective I wouldn’t have minded, but because they had both been central characters I wanted to experience both their ending and get a better idea of where Meleager actually fits into Atalanta’s life in the end. Anyway, still enjoyed the book!

Fabulous plot twist

The fates have little bits but it’s just a spicy romance novel about Atalanta that has taken a lot of creative license with the myth. Couldn’t get through the first hour.
