About this listen
Medea was destined for power. What she got was revenge.
Medea, daughter of King Aeetes of Colchis, longs for a different life. Since childhood, she has been separated from her sister, shunned by her mother, and beaten and tormented by her brother and father. All because Medea was born with a unique and seemingly dangerous talent: witchcraft.
But when a dashing young hero, Jason, arrives to claim the famed Golden Fleece that her father fiercely protects, Medea sees her opportunity for escape. In offering to help Jason overcome the obstacles that stand between him and his prize in return for taking her away from Colchis, she sets in motion a journey that will test every ounce of her strength, magic and loyalty; a journey that will see her battle monsters, dethrone kings and fall in love with a man who is not the hero we all know from story; a journey that will inevitably end in betrayal and bloodshed.

Phaedra has been cast to the side all her life: daughter of an adulteress, sister of a monster, and now unwilling bride to the much-older, power-hungry Theseus. Young, naïve, and idealistic, she has accepted her lot in life, resigned to existing under the sinister weight of Theseus’s control and the constant watchful eye of her handsome stepson Hippolytus. When supposedly pious Hippolytus assaults her, Phaedra’s world is darkened in the face of untouchable, prideful power. In the face of injustice, Phaedra refuses to remain quiet any longer.

Nationally bestselling author of Daughters of Sparta Claire Heywood returns with an imaginative and female-centered reinterpretation of the myth of the great hero Perseus, told through the voices of three women who are sidelined in the traditional version—his mother, Danae; his trophy, Medusa; and his wife, Andromeda—but whose viewpoints reveal a man who is not, in fact, a hero at all.

Great Story; Even Better Narrator
Besides this being a well written novel, the narrator was fantastic. Her inflection was perfect and conveyed the characters' moods, emotions and personalities in a way that made each character come to life. It is a book I would recommend to anyone.

Powerful though painful at times
If you know the story of Medea, then you know there will be pain, sadness, and horror. There were difficult times listening to gaslighting and narcnarcissistic personality traits of one of the other main characters. It is painful to be so fully engulfed in an abusive relationship. However this was so powerful and well read that despite the discomfort at times, I think this is a story that needs to be heard from her perspective. Highly recommend.
