About this listen

Who'll survive the midnight show?

The Colonial Theater, a single-screen movie house on the edge of town, is holding a special midnight screening of a brand new splatter flick. But before the opening titles make it to the screen, the popcorn-laden aisles run red with blood as a masked killer begins slaughtering the moviegoers with the aid of a spiked meat tenderizer.

Among those filling the torn seats: a movie blogger in search of fodder to appease his limited readers, a victim of a recent betrayal who’ll do just about anything for an escape from a home she no longer feels welcome in, a fugitive on the lam looking for sanctuary from the city streets, and a pair of post-adolescent twins who’ve managed to creep into the theater unseen.

After a full 90 minutes of bloodshed both on and off the silver screen, only four patrons remain. Four patrons who discover that the doors have been locked and the only way out is inside a body bag.

An edge-of-your-seat nail-biter of a thriller, The Final Girl will fill your restless night with a bloody horror show and keep you guessing until the very end.

Entertaining, Graphic and Violent

The Final Girl may start off a little slow but when it picks up WHAM right between the eyes. This book is not for the faint of heart it is a violent dark read that will make you think twice about dark movie theaters. I love that Brandon Ford gives you the background of each character as the plot unfolds. Michael Butler as the narrator does an amazing job giving the characters and story life. In my opinion he does the female voices perfectly. If you love blood. violence and gore this is the book for you. I highly recommend this book and this is my honest unbiased review.

A Surprise Ending

I have to admit I love anything horror and enjoyed it even though it reminded me of a 80s book. Enjoyed all of the characters and found the ending I was not expecting as well as all the bloody gore. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

Brutal and Entertaining Slasher

This story is a particularly grisly slasher story both on and off the silver screen. It stayed exciting and entertaining throughout with a lot of blood and some interesting POV style. I enjoyed the fact that the characters weren't just cut outs like they often are in slasher movies, that gave me as a listener a little more to root for.

This book transported me back in time to my own , small hometown movie theater. Great character development, and the plot is full of surprises.

A Particularly Grizzly Thrill

This book paces itself well. What initially feels like a slow build suddenly explodes into perpetual violent chaos. Fans of horror and gore will enjoy this, as the violence was described more graphically than I anticipated, but it really lends itself to those disturbing visuals, which is the goal. This is also bolstered by the narration, which I got a kick out of, especially the different personalities vocally assigned to the characters. Up until the last few chapters of the book, I didn't fully know where the story was going or how i would play out, which is one of the marks of a good suspense novel. And even until the last chapter or two, I didn't anticipate the final little twist that was yet to come. If I had one concern, it was the amount of characters involved, as at times, it was a bit difficult to keep track of who was who and all the stories associated with the characters. But the large amount of characters also plays into the idea of a "who done it?" style story, Recommended to fans of horror, suspense, and even, in a way, movie connoisseurs.

A Gory Graphic Amazing Goodie!

Grab your headphones, a bucket of popcorn, a big gulp and get ready for one heck of a thrill ride down horror lane! Brandon Ford really pulls out all the stops in The Final Girl. I binged this masterfully written, brilliantly narrated gem in one day! I thought I knew what was going to happen, I was certain I had it all figured out. It’s a good thing I didn’t bet anyone because I’d be broke. I could not have been more wrong! That diabolical ending! Pure twisted genius. Pure perfection! I am still grinning hours later. I should probably seek professional help. Five fabulous stars!

Fantastic Slasher Vibes

When the seemingly abandoned cinema in town has a one night showing of a horror movie named “Bloodletting” various characters throughout town have their own reason for attending. Some of them are horror buffs, some just don’t have any place better to be. No matter what their reason for attending, they are all faced with the same threat—a maniac with a jester mask and a meat tenderizer.

Lots of gore and suspense. I think my favorite part was how in-depth we got to be with each of the main characters before the entire slaughter went down. Out of all of them, Keely was my favorite. Even though she was down on herself most of the book, she had spunk in her. In these types of books, that can get you far.

I also really enjoyed the jumping POV that gave us glimpses into different parts of the event as they happened. From the projectionist to the moviegoers to the cinema employees, we’re constantly given a different perspective. All of these amped up the suspense into a chilling crescendo. Not to mention the twist at the end.

Fantastic ‘80’s slasher vibe. I could easily picture this on the big screen.

Narration was a little quick, but well done.
