About this listen

Born at the beginning of the 20th century, Raphael Ignatius Phoenix is determined to take his own life as the new millennium begins and he turns 100 years old. But before he ends it all, he wants to get his affairs in order, and that includes making sense of his own life. He decides to write it down, remembering the experiences, the myriad encounters and, of course, the 10 murders he committed along the way.

"More than lives up to its promise... as darkly funny as it is original." ( Mail on Sunday)

I finished this book in a couple of days because I simply could not resist listening to it for hours on end. The story is quirky, fast-moving and grimly droll. To say the story is novel would be an understatement. There was only one episode that I found ghastly beyond belief and I was actually too scared to go to bed and fall asleep as I was too immersed in a grim and wicked set of cruel actions. For the rest of the book, I was amused to the point of laughing out loud. Written in the first person, I was fond of the protagonist from the very beginning despite his proclivities. Absolutely brilliant narration that made a deviously delicious story even more delectable. Such an imaginative and amusing book.
