About this listen

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

In The Fires of Heaven, the fifth novel in Robert Jordan’s #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, four of the most powerful Forsaken band together against the Champion of Light, Rand al’Thor.

Prophesized to defeat the Dark One, Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, has upset the balance of power across the land. Shaido Aiel are on the march, ravaging everything in their path. The White Tower's Amyrlin has been deposed, turning the Aes Sedai against one another. The forbidden city of Rhuidean is overrun by Shadowspawn.

Despite the chaos swirling around him, Rand continues to learn how to harness his abilities, determined to wield the One Power--and ignoring the counsel of Moiraine Damodred at great cost.

Critic reviews

"Jordan deftly weaves details from previous books into this narrative." (Publishers Weekly)
"Fires of Heaven upholds the very high standards of this major fantasy epic, with battle scenes, comic interludes, and character development all reaching perhaps the highest point in a work that has lacked for none of these." (Booklist)
"Jordan's epic saga of a world threatened by evil incarnate builds steadily as separate strands of a complex plot begin to come together. Fans of this richly detailed and vividly imagined series will not be disappointed." (Library Journal)

There was a lot of movement in the story, finally! To me, it seemed that there was a lot happening but in a short period of time. But this one helps to give you a sense of how much time has progressed and you see the characters, especially Matt and Rand grow.Great installment to this series. It resolved some conflicts and situations while leaving you wondering about some new events and the future of the characters and their world. It is truly an epic saga and I am looking forward reading the sixth book in the series next! The narration in this series is top-notch too. Kudos to Michael Kramer and Kate Reading!

The saga continues, and the story progresses...

The first half is slow but the second half is mostly a page turner. It takes a while to set up all the new characters and new circumstances but IMO very worth it. This is not a good series if you don't have a lot of time to listen but I have 2 hours of commute to get through every day so it makes my ride entertaining.
I can understand some of the bad reviews if you only listened to the first half and put it down.
I listened to New Spring before this which made some of the first part more understandable to know the past story with Morain a Suan Sanchez.
I didn't have a problem with the battle between the sexes that some people complained about. Somewhat humorous at times and a bit overdone but did no distraction from the rest of the story and could be considered realistic. Jordan seems intent on telling many details which makes it more more like a real story witj mundain daily life rather than keeping everything quickpaced just to keep the readers' interest. Who cares how bad the tea taisted but it also makes it more vivid IMO.
The second half gets very involved and the last few chapters I would say are magnificent justifying my 5 star rating. Huge changes happen in the Wheel of Time world with this book.
Got to also say the reading performance is fantastic. I slowed it down to 90% which helped me with listening to Kate Reading's voice.

Hang in There

I read the books first and I'm now listening to them for convenience so I can re-enjoy the story. and I must say I enjoy most not having to read about what the characters were wearing. hearing it read makes it less boring in my opinion. otherwise a good audio and my only complaint about the reader is that he would end chapters so it felt like it was being cut off mid sentence.

long and story progressing

can't wait for the next installment. this story flowed into the whole beautifully without losing momentum.

excellent addition to the series

This was a great addition to the series and I look forward to the next book. The only area of opportunity is to condense a bit of the details, otherwise amazing!!!!!!

Great read!
