Critic reviews

"Jordan deftly weaves details from previous books into this narrative." (Publishers Weekly)
"Fires of Heaven upholds the very high standards of this major fantasy epic, with battle scenes, comic interludes, and character development all reaching perhaps the highest point in a work that has lacked for none of these." (Booklist)
"Jordan's epic saga of a world threatened by evil incarnate builds steadily as separate strands of a complex plot begin to come together. Fans of this richly detailed and vividly imagined series will not be disappointed." (Library Journal)

Can't stop listening

This is my first review in the Wheel Of Time series. The first 4 books were procured from another source, and Audible doesn't let you review books you didn't buy here.

I have been a reader of books for a long time now, but only a fan of epic fantasy for maybe five years or so. I have to admit that I have eyed the Wheel Of Time series on several occasions, but the number of books in the series scared me off. I wasn't sure I wanted to make a 14 to 15 book commitment, and not sure that any story could be interesting for that long. But while stuck in that place between the several series waiting for the next installment, and unsuccessful looking for a new one, I decided I would finally give this series a try.

I am very glad I did. If you are like me, and wondering if you should take on this gargantuan series, I would say take the leap. I was engrossed in this story from the start, and have listened to the first five books now quickly. The story has never become boring to me so far, and I enjoy getting to really know the characters involved. Spending so much time with them, you begin to feel as if you really know them, and you can't wait to find out what happens to them next. I have read some reviews about how some of the characters are immature or annoying, but I think they are are real, and seem to grow as events happen around them. Much more enjoyable than in some books where the hero's never have any faults.

If you are considering this series, but not sure if you should, I say go for it. You will not regret it.

amazing story

It is becoming a little unbearable the same topic on and on. Men are always the same, men. Woman are always the same, woman. they struggle to understand each other. it has been 5 books of this already and I think it will not only continue, but is the essence of the story. the difference between man and women, saidar and saidin. It is an amazing story, characters and how they grow, but the constant pounding of the same over and over is tiring

The skinny

Wearying at times with the portrayals of the girls. Overall the story develops well. Moraine grows marvelously, as does Lan. Rand starts to develop. Matt moves from comic relief to a pivotal role, which is the best part of this book. The forsaken lose their mystique and reveal themselves as petty, mean-spirited shits.

One of the greatest series of all time continues

It good to hear the story told rather than read it. It gives you a feel that is often missed in settings such as campfire story telling. With the story being told, you hear things that you didn't glean within the reading, especially if you read the book previously.

Enjoying a well written story.

I'm not a person who writes reviews so this is just my thoughts. I figure if I can read & reread (paper backs) each time a new book was added to the series it must be good , 16 books... Now I'm listening to the series for the third time and still look forward to the next book (# 5) with Kate Reading / Michael Kramer narrating!

A Dip In The Action of the Series

If you could sum up The Fires of Heaven in three words, what would they be?

I am new to discovering the WoT books. Lord knows I have seen it in every bookstore, but I took a chance. I have loved the story as it has unraveled in books 1-4. But, I had to push myself to finish book 5. I am a feminist, and even I had to say that the slow parts where with the women! I groaned every time the "Men" or "Sniff"comment was made. However, whats done is done, The Wheel Weaves..., you know the rest. All in all, if I have gotten this far, I have to finish the series. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

There is not much you can do. The book is written

What about Kate Reading and Michael Kramer ’s performance did you like?

The performers are very good. I started out disliking Mr. Kramer's performance, but now it is like an old friend. Kate Reading performance is good also. I only wish that they pronounced the names the same. Possibly get together to decide on correct pronunciation.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked Matt"s parts of the book. But Moraine...

Amazing

I almost didn't listen to this series because of the narrator in the first book. I'm glad I did because every book since then has been better and better.

Was a lot of character building

Not a lot of action but the story added layers of depth to our heros.
