About this listen

Fleeing the kingdom he once ruled, Lochlan Stormgarden leads the survivors of the Bloody Red Night across Myriad on a desperate quest for safety. With tyrannical High King Morlan's legions and the lethal bone ministers constantly dogging his steps, Lochlan discovers that the only refuge might be a legendary contagion-cursed fortress deep in the heart of the Gorrack nation.

Meanwhile, Abbagael Coldhollow is six months pregnant and sets off on a fool's errand into the Felhaunt to prove that her beloved husband Alastair is still alive. Little does she know that Cythraul, the seemingly immortal assassin, is also hunting in that forest of horrors. Hunting for her.

Morlan's noose is tightening on all, for he has lit the first candle of the Flame Clock. As each candle flares to life, Myriad slides inexorably closer to a cataclysmic fate. Telwyn Coldhollow alone stands to hinder the coming devastation, for upon the shores of the forsaken continent, Telwyn will face the very heart of evil.

just finished - so good I'm afraid to keep reading

Just finished this today! It's so good I'm honestly afraid to read the next and catch up. Because if I catch up, what will I do with my life?

As the others, this book is well paced and such a FUN READ! Super curious what will happen next.

Like this theme of Loch struggling with the past and the strain of him being King on he and Arianna's relationship. Wondering where she disappeared to by end of book now that I think about it but love Loch and Tel's interactions. Loch's struggles with faith are super relatable! AND YEEEES!!! Some characters I love return and the wait is sooo worth it. When the miracles happen, it's amazing and I can feel the joy they feel at the Halfainan's coming. It's brought to life in me in a new, different way. Which I love. Books should always change you in good ways. I love this series for how it helps me see Christ better. Batson's thoughtful spotlight on His beauty between the pages...

All the books are absolutely fun whether you're Christian or not. That's a testament to the good writing and world building.

Narrator brilliant as always.

If anyone else is confused, there is one line re: Arianna saying she met Maren that's wrong but for a series with so much going on, that single piece of dialogue is nothing.

I can't wait for the next book!

This series has been Wayne Thomas Batson's strongest, as his writing continue to mature and his voice is firmly established. The Myrdian Constellation series, and this book, has a few points where the allegory is a bit forced, but strong world building, terrifying villains, remarkably fleshed out characters, and overall just darn good writing wash away the book's minor flaws. Aside from a few spots, even the allegory lends a certain beauty to the story. The setting for this grim yet uplifting volume is certainly unique enough to make this a great read, whether you consider it a "Christian fantasy" or just "fantasy" book. The book once again ends at a number of carefully crafted cliff hangers, leaving me hungry for the fourth installment in this gripping series. And the reader for this audibook, Dave Cruse, nails it again. He has the voices and accents mastered, especially the villains.

Can't wait for book 4

The narrator is why I didn't pre-order book 4. I want to finish the series in audio. This is an edge of your seat book with antagonists that make your heart stop, and characters that you want to win but are fallible. So relatable. Love this series.
