In a rash of carjackings, Newark becomes newsworthy when one such theft ends in the murder of a wealthy banking executive. The affable, wisecracking Ross is assigned the story. To balance his reporting, he finds a Nigerian immigrant of more modest means who was also killed during a recent carjacking. It turns out the two victims knew each other, sharing an unexplained round of golf at a country club shortly before their deaths. When his unborn child is put in harm's way, it becomes more than just a story for Carter. And he'll stop at nothing to rescue the baby - even if it costs him his own life.

While investigating a a couple of car jackings Carter stumbles on to the person running the thefts but doesn't know he has. He gets his facts wrong a few times before he realized exactly what's going on and just how close he is.
This is a very good book. The suspense is great and so is the sarcasm.
Adam Verner does an excellent job narrating.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this entire series.

What did you love best about The Fraud?
As always being a native of Newark the accuracy of the details of the sorroundings, and a strong story line.Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, well without spoiling it, certain characters and their relationships with each other. What does Adam Verner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I didn't original like when Adam replaced Macleod Andrews, nothing against Adam, but now he's become the voice of Carter and I enjoy his voice in this series.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, but I don't want to give away anything. Lets just say Carter got gangster, and he had too.Any additional comments?
Nope! We'll done.I was excited to have Carter Ross back in my life!

Also in this book he did not use or even read the information that the other reporters who were helping with the story. He seem to be a one man show and think about the baby instead of researching his story. it was good. but if he had known more of the truth it could have been a little better. IMO
will listen to the next one -- I like Carter and now he has a baby!
a pretty good book

My thanks to Audible listener Shelley of Raleigh NC whose reviews have alerted me to this series and to more than a dozen others. If you are a fan of the mystery/thriller genre, you should be following her. On the Listener Page reviewers by category under Mysteries and Thrillers her name appears first for good reason. I encourage all fans of the mystery/thriller genre to follow her and to reward her excellent reviews with helpful votes. (I have never met or communicated with Shelley.)
A delightful mix of suspense, humor, and sarcasm!
