Great for general purposes.
I'm glad that a book like this exists at a time where 12 steps are still seen as the only game in town for addiction. Frankly, if I need to go to meetings for the rest of my life, I haven't dealt with my alcoholism.
The pure logic approach will likely be helpful to most intelligent and introspective people. However, geniuses are often driven to drink as well. What this approach somewhat overlooks is that neurochemicals and biological drives are extremely powerful. Never an excuse to resign to "fate" as an addict or wear it as an identity, sure.
Ever seen Hoarders? Logic doesn't get those people to that state, nor automatically out of it. Nervous system disregulation, neuroses, trauma can cause people to do things that land them in jail or the grave. Look up dorsal vagal shutdown. Dissociation. These things literally alter brain structure.
In my case, trauma and abuse caused me to be unable to form bonds, and I was perpetually anxious and unable to be at ease or have fun. Enter alcohol. It was like finally hearing the music everyone else was dancing to. I landed in the hospital after a blackout. Still didn't "find the pros and cons" with clear eyes. I was risking my life, in deep denial about it, to satisfy a primal urge to both socialize and procreate. We are a conceited species that believes our will drives everything we do. Still, appreciate the work, but overlooks the key factors that cause people to drink dangerously.

Freedom
I have read many books about “addiction” in the past but this is by far the best and only one you really need. It gives you freedom instead feeding you a bunch of bs about how you helpless. The book also claims everything it says with research and examples. I hope this model becomes wide spread so no one has to suffer from this fake disease called addiction

the best addiction self help book.
I just finished this. it shattered my understanding of "addiction". and it's done with science. everyone who has ever thought they were addicted to anything should read this. thank you I'm gonna listen again.
I don't love the narrator, it is a book that will challenge your preconceived notion and the narrator does not hold back his defiant tone which comes on strong to me. but listen to the science, listen to the words, we have all been lied to about what addiction is. we should be pissed off. but this is a book also about empowerment of individual and he captures that well. he sounds kinda like a macho gym trainer that gives good pep talks haha no offense. great book wow.

If your addicted to anything, BUY! BUY! BUY!
these book is one of those that will shift your perspective on the term addiction that will leave u agast but also empowered, if ur thinking about purchasing don't think press that buy button, about to purchase the actual book for in depth study. I actually stopped drinkin with the help of other books in this genre, " The easy way to stop alcohol " by Allen Carr and " The Naked Mind " by Annie Grace . I was always wondering how reading a book could cure my so called disease or addiction and this book literally breaks it down in a much deeper way

One of the Most Important Books I've Read
The book makes a pretty wild claim, which can be difficult to believe at first, but it does more than enough to back it up. It combines study after study, historical events, personal experiences, and logic to prove that you can be free (that you always were.)
This book is real. It is not a regurgitation of what you traditionally hear. It's not full of buzzwords and platitudes. It is written by people who understand the experience of addiction, and they will not tell you what to do or how to live your life. What they will do is equip you to pursue your happiest option
If you're struggling with addiction and nothing else seems to work, read this book. After all, what do you have to lose?

Fantastic! Knowledge is power!
I found the detailed research debunking the myths of addiction and recovery enlightening. Overall the book helps strengthen the power of choice and the reasons one enjoys and chooses nearly all activities. This is the path to balance for the non-12 stepper.

Excellent book, horrible narrator
This book has changed my life, but I had to read it not listen to it, to get through it. the narrator for the audible version is awful. it sounds like a frat kid trying his first attempt at reading a book. really wish one of the authors read the book instead of who ever they hired out of a college fraternity to read it.
