About this listen

New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis returns to Sunrise Cove with a powerful, moving story about a young woman on a quest to find the truth about her father who learns the meaning of true love along the way.

Alone in the world, Tae Holmes and her mother April pretty much raised each other, but as Tae starts asking questions about the father she’s never met, April, for the first time in her life, goes silent. To make matters worse, Tae is dangerously close to broke and just manages to avoid financial meltdown when she lands a shiny new contract with an adventure company for athletes with disabilities and wounded warriors.

Her first big fundraiser event falls flat, but what starts out as a terrible, horrible, no-good night turns into something else entirely when Tae finds herself face-to-face with Riggs Copeland. She hasn’t seen the former Marine since their brief fling in high school, and while still intensely drawn to him, she likes her past burned and buried, thank you very much. Hence their friendship pact.

But when April oddly refuses to help Tae track down her father, it’s Riggs who unexpectedly comes to her aid. On a hunt to unlock the past, the two of them find themselves on a wild ride and learn a shocking truth, while also reluctantly bonding in a way neither had seen coming. Now Tae must decide whether she’s going to choose love … or walk away from her own happiness.

The friendship pact

It was a good book not my favorite book by this author but still definitely enjoyable. The characters were realistic and entertaining. The message was heartfelt and relatable. Definitely worth reading

A decent list

It is a simple and predictable story but told well. I really enjoyed the reader, made it easy to listen to. The story won’t knock your socks off but it will entertain just enough.

Wonderful

I have read a lot of books by Jill Shavis but this one was by far the best. I was drawn in from the very beginning and stayed wrapped up in it till the end.

Happy ending but I couldn’t like the characters

I wanted to like this as I enjoy the author’s previous works I’ve read. This one was just too harsh. No one liked anyone and they were just too unforgiving. One side character was the “sunshine” of the book and that was supposed to be enough, I guess. The others’ harshness and meanness were just too much for me. They all seemed to agree their childhoods were rough, but then were cruel and cut them down at every turn without fail and without discussion. I got through it, but it was such a downer I need to read a much less angsty book where the characters are kinder. Truly, it’s hard to imagine characters being that forgiving and loving after being that harsh and unkind toward each other. Makes the ending less believable.
Performance was good.

Sweet Second Chances

I’ve read this series backwards, from newest to oldest. This has been my least favorite in the series; but it was still a sweet story. I have no complaints, it just didn’t hit me like others have.
