The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

There has always been a darkness to Ilmar, but never more so than now. The city chafes under the heavy hand of the Palleseen occupation, the choke-hold of its criminal underworld, the boot of its factory owners, the weight of its wretched poor and the burden of its ancient curse. What will be the spark that lights the conflagration? Despite the city's refugees, wanderers, murderers, madmen, fanatics and thieves, the catalyst, as always, will be the Anchorwood–that dark grove of trees, that primeval remnant, that portal, when the moon is full, to strange and distant shores.

So many stories begin the same way: With a prophecy. A chosen one. And the inevitable quest to slay a villain, save the kingdom, and fulfill a grand destiny. But this is not that kind of story. It does begin with a prophecy: A child will rise to defeat the Eternal Khan, a cruel immortal god-king, and save the kingdom. And that prophecy did anoint a hero, Jian, raised since birth in luxury and splendor, and celebrated before he has won a single battle.

An incredible ending!
I'm so glad that I read this after the Books Of The Ancestors! We get so much more info about that series in this book. I listened to it at 1.15 speed because it's narrated slowly and my attention wandered at normal speed.

Wow
Let me start by thanking Mark Lawrence for starting this book with a recap of the story. I wish more authors did this.
The Girl and the Moon, book #3 of the Ice by Mark Lawrence was outstanding and amazing. It's probably my favorite book by Mark Lawrence from this world, but I have truly enjoyed all of them. Mark Lawrence's writing and world-building is complex and intricate, and his character development connects the reader with the memorable heroes and villains set in a strange and harsh world of Ice and struggle.
Someday I would like to reread this series first, and then follow it by rereading the Ancestor series. There is so much I have forgotten from the Ancestor series, and I have no doubt, many things I missed while reading it the first time. I listened to the Audible version narrated by Helen Duff, and her narration was stellar and engaging. This is a great book and the end of a wonderful series.

Well weaved, but still has some issues.
Better than tGatM but still suffers from "teenagers in peril", bad decisions, having to tools or previous instances of action that will work but not doing them because of whatever. The world is still great. Much better character work, and I actually cared about them. Yaz has possibly 2 notes now so, better.
The plot weaving is very good. There a big plot bomb that really made me not feel great about it though. One of those... "wait... all this and ___?!" But, I guess that's how you sell more books.
I DO want to know more about this world. But I don't know if I can get through another brutal book series.

Captivating story!
Wonderful tale spanning time, space, and multiple novels! New characters meet old characters from different worlds and storylines. Grand scope, and simple bonds of friendship meet hardship, tragedy, humor, and destiny.

as always an amazing engaging book from Mark Lawre
Another wonderful entry from Mark Lawrence, his shared universe has far surpassed sanderson and I can't wait for more. The Tie ins and superbly wrapped up ending to thos trilogy was satisfying while leaving me thinking and hoping to return.
