Publisher's summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Saving the world is a test no school of magic can prepare you for in the triumphant conclusion to the Sunday Times bestselling trilogy that began with A Deadly Education and The Last Graduate.

The one thing you never talk about while you're in the Scholomance is what you'll do when you get out - not even the richest enclaver would tempt fate that way.

But that impossible dream has somehow come true for El and her classmates. And what's more, she didn't even have to become the monstrous dark witch she's prophesised to become to make it happen. Instead of killing enclavers, she saved them, and now the world is safe for all wizards. Peace and harmony have enveloped all the enclaves of the world.

Just kidding.

Instead, someone else has picked up the project of destroying enclaves in El's stead, and everyone she saved is at risk again with a full-scale enclave war on the horizon. And so, the first thing El needs to do after miraculously escaping the Scholomance, is to turn straight around and find a way back in.

There’s not actually a story

The ending is very dull and gives no resolution to the story, which makes sense as there’s not really much plot to the series. There are periodic events that carry the characters through the various books and the author hints at setting up a proper series-scale plot but nothing really comes of it. That said, it is an easy read and enjoyable enough, sort of like watching a sitcom that’s into its later seasons - there’s nothing driving the season’s story but that doesn’t mean the episodes aren’t enjoyable.

Good story, ending feels unfinished

I like the trilogy and the style, the MC and the whole idea as well.
Naomi Novik is on my list of good writers and I’ve liked everything I’ve listened to so far. That bring said, I felt like the ending was at least 2 chapters short, or perhaps there is a 4th book? If not the ending was a bit anticlimactic. Still an overall 4 star story.
I really like the narrator, Anisha Dadia, who has so many accents and nuances to the characters voices and did a banging job.
Can recommend, but just know the ending is rushed.

Not as satisfying as I hoped

If u want to finish this series, I think it’s enjoyable but I don’t like the ending.

Many of the plot twists were great and interesting and it was mostly enjoyable.

However, I don’t feel like it expands on the world much at all, the pacing feels off at the start compared to the end (for me) and I, seriously, cannot believe that’s how it ends.

P.S. If anyone searches spoiler reviews, I agree with most of their criticisms about Liesel, El and someone’s parent.
