About this listen

An indispensable handbook on all aspects of fatherhood during the first 12 months, by the author of The Expectant Father.

The essential handbook for all things first-year father is now fully updated and revised. Not only will new dads get a month-by-month guide to their baby’s development, men listening to The New Father will learn how they change, grow, and develop over the first 12 months of fatherhood.

In each chapter, Brott focuses on What’s Going On with the Baby; What You’re Going Through; What’s Going On with Your Partner; You and Your Baby; Family Matters; and more. The latest research, as well as time-honored wisdom - and humor, thanks to Brott’s light touch - make The New Father indispensable for the modern father who doesn’t want to miss a moment of his child’s first year.

Great info with slight issues

Great source of info for new fathers but the narrators voice can drone on at times. And not in a good way.

Thank God!!!

I’m a first time father to be and literally just happened to see this book sitting on the shelf at a midwife appointment. I didn’t know they had stuff like this for men. I love how straightforward and honestly he addresses potential marriage struggle and emotional strain along with all the excitement… and a lot of very helpful early life psychological stuff I never would have guessed on my own. Excited to be an involved dad. My wife is going to read it next when we book swap and I have to read one of hers on natural birthing… Pray for me lol

A detailed, exhaustive, and well-organized guide

After reading Brott's "The Expectant Father," I was happy to see that he has written guide books for most of the subsequent years as well. This is yet another good, detailed guide for fathers tackling their first year. The consistent organization of the chapters, arranged by time periods, with "what's going on with ..." make them easy to access. The chapter titles on the pages and bullet-pointed summaries also make it easy to skip ahead or go back through to find information you may be looking for. While I do not agree with all the advice Brott may give, he does a great job of putting things in context and does not tout what he says as "gospel" but rather good recommendations from experienced dads. He does a great job narrating and the PDF attachment is useful, though I recommend just getting a paper copy of this book to follow along with and refer back to. I am now expecting twins and wish that Brott would write a book like this for fathers of twins, though there is already good (if short) literature out there on fathering twins. This is a must-read for new dads!

Great Dad Reference Book!

Very helpful as I was becoming a dad for the first time, and a nice reference. my recommendation for any dads looking into/reading this book is to take this book kinda slow and listen to parts of it at a time, and don't be afraid to just skip over parts that don't interest you or aren't relevant to you.

There's a lot of information packed tightly in this book, and some of it is beyond useful, and some of it doesn't feel important. And that's totally fine. I personally only listened to a chapter or two at a time when my son got to roughly that age. That way things felt more relevant/applicable, and I didn't feel like I was completely overwhelmed by all the information.

My other recommendation is to look at all his advice/procedures as more guidelines than checkboxs to mark off. It was how I stopped myself from feeling overwhelmed, and it allow me to deviate to find something that worked best for my family.

All in, love the book. It felt great having a book geared towards fathers that seems to understand how I was feeling as a dad and treated dads with respect that they can be equal partners in parenthood. Completely nailed my feelings/enotions as I was going through them. It was exactly what I needed before the baby was born, and has been a valuable tool to lean on after the baby was born. Thanks Armon!
