About this listen

Would you like to be happier?

No matter who you are or how you feel, chances are you would answer yes. And Jennifer Dukes Lee was no different. For years, she wrestled with a constant nagging sense that she wasn't as happy as she could be. At the same time, she felt guilty for wanting something so "shallow". After all, doesn't God only care that we find joy in our circumstances? Or is it possible that God really does want us to be happy?

Determined to get answers, Jennifer embarked on a quest to find out whether our happiness matters to God and, if so, how to pursue it in a way that pleases him.

In The Happiness Dare, you'll learn what she discovered, including how to:

  • Understand the five happiness styles and maximize yours
  • Overcome the four biggest obstacles that stand in the way of your happiness
  • Find your happiness sweet spot-the place, relationship, or activity that gives you the greatest sense of well-being
  • Discover what you can do in just five minutes a day to be happier

Okay but felt like it was a lot of ideas I had heard before

It was encouraging and not a bad book but not a lot of unique ideas.

What makes you happy?

Would you listen to The Happiness Dare again? Why?

Yes, absolutely! It was very inspiring and made me realize that we all have different happiness motivators, ie I'm a 'thinker' and my husband is a 'doer'. He is genuinely happy while doing things that would drain my energy, like doing housework ( lol). It helped give me permission to accept I need to take ample time to read enlightening books and listen to podcasts or watch documentaries or engage in thought-provoking conversations. For years, I felt like doing this was a form of procrastination ( which it sometimes is haha) and I felt like I was being lazy, but if I don't pursue this I am genuinely unhappy. In fact, when I've been my least happy in life it was because I attempted to fit in and be as 'productive' as possible and totally let go of that which helps me feel like myself.

Any additional comments?

I wanted to make one comment with regards to what I think the book is lacking: there is no 'creative' or artist section. There is a thinker, doer, etc but for some reason, the author doesn't have creativity as one of the driving forces for making a person happy, and I think this really needed to be there. I'm not alone in finding happiness through writing a poem or taking a photo, right?

Great insight

I love the openness of the author. Very interesting ideas and concepts developed in the book that are great for pondering and implementing.

Really churchy even for me.

I feel like God is used as a cop out for research and facts, too churchy and vague to get past the first chapter.
