About this listen

Lila once had a life. But now, it's saturated in disbelief and horror....

Lila has a life and dreams for her own future, but when her mother begins to lose her battle with cancer, she comes to Lila asking for one last request. She wishes to die in a beach house, listening to the waves and basking on the sand.

Lila gives in. She sells her small home and purchases a house on the beach to spend the last days of her mother’s life with her. Lila can’t help but miss her old life, but the drive to see her mother have her final wishes pushes her to stay.

After only a short while, Lila’s mom starts to hear and see things. Are they nightmares, or just illusions conjured by the numerous medications her mother takes to keep her alive?

When Lila’s mom finally passes, Lila is heart broken. She wished the end of her mother’s life had been different. Her mental state had deteriorated so badly that it became a daily basis of ghosts and shadows.

As Lila stays in the beach house mourning her mother, she tries to move on with her life in the new place. After all, maybe she too needed a new start. But not soon after her mother passes does she begin to hear things, see things, and have her own terrifying nightmares.

Is it from stress, or is there something more sinister lurking in the shadows of the beach house? Was her mother right this entire time?

Easy to listen to

This was an enjoyable story. The narrator was easy to listen to and the ending was unexpected. Well done.

A genuinely spooky story

The story starts off a little slow, picks up in the middle, and shines towards the end.

The story’s protagonist, Lila, goes through a lot in this tale. Aside from dealing with her mother’s failing health, she must also contend with the lingering spirits that haunt their new home.

At first, she attributes the the things she’s seeing and hearing to grief. Eventually, however, she must admit to herself that something more sinister is at work.

I particularly enjoyed the portrayal of John, a malevolent spirit and the original owner of the house.

While the ending wasn’t entirely unexpected, it was enjoyable and worth the wait.
