About this listen

“Narrator Ina Barrón arrives at the mic fully formed, providing a notable performance of distinct characterizations.”—Booklist

From the author of White Horse (“Twisty and electric.”—The New York Times Book Review) comes a terrifying and resonant novel about a woman who uses her unique gift to learn the truth about her sister’s death.

Olivia Becente was never supposed to have the gift. The ability to commune with the dead was the specialty of her sister, Naiche. But when Naiche dies unexpectedly and under strange circumstances, somehow Olivia suddenly can’t stop seeing and hearing from spirits.

A few years later, she’s the most in-demand paranormal investigator in Denver. She’s good at her job, but the loss of Naiche haunts her. That’s when she hears from the Brown Palace, a landmark Denver hotel. The owner can’t explain it, but every few years, a girl is found dead in room 904, no matter what room she checked into the night before. As Olivia tries to understand these disturbing deaths, the past and the present collide as Olivia’s investigation forces her to confront a mysterious and possibly dangerous cult, a vindictive journalist, betrayal by her friends, and shocking revelations about her sister’s secret life.

The Haunting of Room 904 is a paranormal thriller that is as edgy as it is heartfelt and simmers with intensity and longing. Erika T. Wurth lives up to her reputation as “a gritty new punkish outsider voice in American horror.”

Critic reviews

The Haunting of Room 904 deftly mixes humor, scares, and the weight of personal and generational grief. The book is a heady, haunting, righteous, and spiritual exploration of our political mess through the lens of paranormal exploration and, sometimes even scarier, interpersonal relationships. You’ll want to follow Erika and her Olivia into any dark, creaky room.” —Paul Tremblay, New York Times bestselling author of Horror Movie and A Head Full of Ghosts

The Haunting Of Room 904 is an electric terrifying journey into the world beyond the veil. Erika T. Wurth has created a mind bending tale of loss and love and the devastating cost of grief. You don't want to miss this!” —S. A. Cosby, author of All the Sinners Bleed and Razorblade Tears

I had hoped for more of a spooky, haunted atmosphere to this story. The premise is so interesting, but I feel kind of like it was a bait and switch in a way. It starts strong, with a paranormal vibe, but gets a bit choppy and morphs into a mock romance, with he-said/she-said characters on the sidelines. Sadly, the book never really came together for me and the ending just felt sorta rushed and flat.

Different than I expected

I don’t understand the low ratings on gd but can only imagine they’re from the ignorant/apathetic. This book had everything I could want in a story, paranormal, great characters, friendships, relationships, wit, interesting history and heartbreaking truths of humanity. The good and the bad, always duality. At the same time it was such so entertaining and fun. Well written and original I don’t understand how you wouldn’t love this! So so worth the credit! Going to read this authors other books next. Definitely recommend !

So good! Finished in 24 hours. I couldn’t stop

An intelligent woman who is a paranormal investigator is trying to move on after her sister`s suicide, but there is something that keeps pulling her back to her pain. Now, her mother is in danger and there may have been more at play in sister`s death. The writing is great and the performance was too. It`s a story that gets you from the beginning and doesn`t let you go.

Good and Creepy

If there weren’t any racists, sexists or homophobes in the world this book would have gotten much better reviews. It’s awesome from start to finish. I will buy her first book now, so bye!

Amazing

This would have been a fairly good book, but too much lgbt, call me homophobic all you want, but it ruined the book. The author has a good imagination tho. Narrator did a good job.

Disappointed!

Extremely cheesy, DRAWN OUT story. I felt like I was watching a D grade spooky movie. The plot had potential, but the unnecessary detail of every single scene ruined the book. I found myself actually skipping chunks of chapters just to get past all of the details and arrive at the actual important part of the chapter. The extra happenings besides the main storyline took away from the main plot. The undertones of the book bothered me and also ruined the book. I couldn’t wait until the book was finished. A waste of a credit.
