About this listen

Marine biologist and former secret operative Doc Ford is lazily poling his skiff along Southwest Florida's flat copper sea in search of sea anemones when he runs into the body of the most hated man on Sanibel Island: Marvin Rios. And when the Island's simplest and sweetest resident is arrested for the murder, Doc heads straight into the heart of the sunshine state's dark side - to save his friend from being framed, and to save Sanibel Island from a rising tide of land-grab schemes, blood money, and violence.

the story meandered, it just did not keep my attention like many of the doc Ford books. hopefully the next one will be more to my liking. also, the naration was just plodding along, a better narrator would have helped some.

not one of RWW best.

Love this series

I generally like the Doc Ford series but this is not the best one. The main problem is the narrator. He has a nice voice but is not a very good actor. His accents are mostly corny and the accent for Tomlinson is all over the place. Probably worth reading but I struggled to get through this performance.

Distracting Narrator

I'm new to RWW and Doc Ford, as this is my second read/listen to RWW's work. I very much enjoyed Sanibel Flats, but I find that The Heat Islands is even better, which, I hope, bodes well for the future entries I hope to read down the road. The writing is nicely paced, and the characters are well drawn and memorable. I'll be starting The Man Who Invented Florida next, and I highly recommend The Heat Islands.

Even Better Than The First

Randy Waybe Write brings a sophisticated twist to nefarious doings in the waters off Florida. Narrated creatively by Dick Hill.
