About this listen

Only one man could set her heart ablaze....

Lady Averill Mortagne learned to control her fierce temper as a young girl. But if her father insists on parading her before one more English lord who looks askance at her flame-colored hair, she'll simply scream! Her only respite is the time she spends with Kade Stewart, the wounded Scot her brother brought home from the Crusades. Who could have imagined a Highland warrior would be the only gentleman around?

Lady Averill helped save his life, and for that Kade is truly grateful. She is also almost unbearably beautiful, but he could never subject such a sweet and gentle lady to the rough life of a Stewart laird's bride... or could he? When she braves an unexpected danger by his side, Averill will prove to Kade that her heart is as fiery as her hair ...and that submitting to their scorching passion would be heaven indeed.

If you can make it through the boring lady reading the book, it might be good.

The English girl thinks she is ugly – that is what she has been told because she has red hair and a birthmark on her cheek. She also has the fierce temper of a hellion. Her brother brings home to England a Scottish Laird who has a head wound and is unconscious. The Laird and her brother have been prisoners of the infidels for 3 years but escaped. When the Laird wakes up the girl thinks he cannot see and therefore does not know she is ugly. In reality he can see and he thinks she is beautiful. The girl’s father has been trying to get her married, but no one wants her, until the Laird arrives. He takes her home to Scotland.

The Laird has a problem back at his castle in Scotland. His father and brothers are drunkards and let the castle run to rack and ruin while the Laird was gone. To make things even worse, someone is trying to kill the Laird and makes many attempts on his life. The Laird is lucky and is not killed. As the book unfolds, we see how the Laird tackles his problems at his castle and how he and the hellion girl get along. We also find out the identity of the person trying to kill the Laird. This is an entertaining story and I like the way the author builds the characters. The narrator is good, with a broad Scottish accent.

He thinks she is pretty

I loved this book! It was drop dead hillarious! How can a love scene be both erotic and hillarious! I loved the narrator after listening for a while. Give it a try!!

Oh my god!

Book 1 of this series was okay, but the narrator was TERRIBLE. Book 2, the narrator was MUCH better, but the story was GARBAGE.

Book 3 was finally the proper balance of good story, good writing, and good narrating! Finally! Both have found their stride!

With finishing this book I was more than happy to start up the next Highlander series by Sands.

Would recommend starting with this book and just skipping the first two.

Finally!

I love the story and plot. Lynsay Sands is one of my favorite Authors. However, this narrator is really lacking. Her tone and lack of inflection literally puts me to sleep. I would not stay with the story if I didn’t love the Author. I’ve listened to this narrator throughout this series and she doesn’t improve!

I liked that the h and ah genuinely cared for each other even before declarations of love. I also liked the supporting characters particularly her brother Will.

It was my first audible so the different voices took some getting used to. I often listened while cooking, cleaning, or driving and it was so enjoyable. Can’t wait to try another book.

Loved the h and H

Thoroughly enjoyed audio. I was glad i had listened too some of the other highlander audio's as they blended together in this story and it was pleasing to feel that connection.

If you don't mind a few skips in the audio the story is enough to keep you interested.

Great book

I really enjoyed this audiobook very much. I found much humor in this story of a highlander who is returning injured from the Crusades and finds himself recovering in his best friend and fellow English soldiers home, being taken care of by his friends sister. Cade is planning to return home to Scotland and becoming the Laird of his clan. Averie, the heroine, is a red headed sweet dispositioned woman who tends him. When his friend asks if he’d like to marry his sister, Kane isn’t sure she’s tough enough for Scotland. But when her father concocts a scheme to find her a husband no matter what, we find that Averil isn’t as sweet and biddable as Kane thought! So he offers for her hand in marriage and the adventure begins. Unfortunately, someone doesn’t want him to live long enough to be the Laird. Narration was well done, as the narrator has a Scottish accent herself.

Highland love and humor!

I hate to say this but I ca not comment about the book due to the Narrators voice. Ms Palka sounds like she is reading while falling asleep. She has the most flat and emotionless voice I have ever had the misfortune of hearing. Every time I try and listen to the book I either want to go to sleep or start feeling depressed that I actually purchased something that Ms. Palka narrated. I will now have to buy the book because there is no way I will ever be able to listen to this entire book in audio format as long as Ms. Palka is the narrator.

Worst Narrator in history
