Enjoyed this listen

Who was your favorite character and why?

Chino.... He was sweet, loyal, protective, and he had style.

What about Hillary Hawkins’s performance did you like?

I liked how she would match the pace and intensity of her narration based on what was happening. During scenes of action, her voice reflected the excitement and helped to give a better visual.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Price of a father's sins

Any additional comments?

This book was good all of the way through. Most of the characters were likable and you care what is happening with them. There was a good bit of action, and I never questioned the realism while listening. Good book. This would be a great book for Noir fans. I'm looking forward to part 2.

Hmmm

I love to read. I bought the book thinking I could get into it. The story is great and I would like to know more about what happens to Mercedes, however the person reading the story SUCKED! Her voice is squeaky and irritating. Not only that she didn't do much to change into character. Certain parts she speed read and it aggravated me. Hopefully this isn't the last of pinky Dior though.

I loved it!

What did you love best about The Hustler's Daughter?

I loved the story line. This book kept me entertained in between calls at work. I sometimes didn't like the narrators voice, but overall she did a good job keeping up with the scenes.

What other book might you compare The Hustler's Daughter to and why?

I don't have any other to compare this too.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I think she did a good job of playing a 16-18 year old girl, but at times her voice was annoying.

Who was the most memorable character of The Hustler's Daughter and why?

Chino was my favorite because Mercedes loved him so much!

The story teller

Made the book very hard to listen too. The story itself was ok, but that story teller 👎🏾

This is a book for younger readers

This was a different type of read only because I had to readjust my mind to a younger generation mind frame because kids these days weren't raised like I was. Mercedes was the true definition of spoiled rotten. This book wasn't bad it just seemed like the characters like Mercedes and Maria were naive and very passive and had no type of sense whatsoever they just did and thought what they were told. The story wasn't bad it just seemed to have a lapse of time from birth to teenager for Mercedes and unanswered questions regarding differnt charcters we met like Hazel and Chino. This performance wasn't bad and the voice matched the characters. All in all this story was for younger audience but I will read another book from this author. I do like how the book ended.

Urban Fiction with a Splash of YA

Any additional comments?

The Hustler's Daughter has all of the ingredients to make a great urban fiction novel, but it equally appeals to teen fiction readers. The novel gives a peak at some of the things that teenaged girls go through searching for teenaged love and what difficulty it was to find that love being the daughter of a drug lord.

Mercedes Carter is the daughter of Don Carter, a New York drug dealer, and his wife Maria, whose father is a big drug supplier from Cuba. Maria breaks her father's rule about getting involved with the clients (Don), gets pregnant and leaves Cuba to marry Don.

The story focuses mainly on Mercedes, The Hustler's Daughter, and her lavish lifestyle. I really wanted to like this book but I felt that at times the characters were extreme stereotypes that I had problems relating to. I personally didn't get many of the references and therefore at times felt lost in the story. Also, the story ended a little abrupt for me. Almost like there should have been an epilogue.

Ms. Hawkins did a wonderful job at creating the characters. I would be interested in listening to more books read by her.

I am a huge fan of audio books and I try to give each book a chance. In this case, while I did finish the book, I wasn't excited to get back to the book. At some point I realized that I was making myself finish the book just so I could write the review. Again, it mostly had to do with the fact that I am not the target audience for this book. I am middle aged woman who lives in the suburbs. I think that someone who is in the targeted audience would enjoy this book.

Bad narrator!!! Good story...

I had a hard time with this book the story was awesome but the narrator voice got on my nerves with her stupid sounding laughs and trying to sound like the men in the story just did nothing for me.. I will never purchase anything else with this narrator again!!!
