Publisher's summary

In the hills of Southern California, a series of violent and gruesome deaths occurs within the space of a few hours. The murders are attributed to some unknown, savage animal. Precisely one month later, college student Meg Talley is attacked in the same manner. Astonishingly, she survives, but when she insists her assailant was a hideous, monster-like creature, she is called hysterical.

Journalist Douglas Morgan, private eye Nick Grundel, and horror novelist Blake Corbett, however, have each theorized the mangling, incredible though it seems, might be the work of a werewolf. Now they team up with Meg to peruse an intensive investigation.

When a suspect is apprehended and confined, the four are on hand. But neither skeptics nor believers are prepared for the bone-chilling terror and cataclysmic violence that will be unleashed in the night of the January full moon....

The Hyde Effect

I loved this book! It was really well done and the ending fit the story really well. I love a good werewolf story but they are hard to find in my opinion. The book started with a bang and just when I thought it was winding down, it ripped everything (and I mean everything) wide open. It was violent and messy. I am not sure I can think of a comparison to something I have absorbed in the past (movie, book, myth...). I loved that there is always more to the story and I think that I need to find more books by Steve Vance. Edison McDaniels did a really good job with his narration especially when Vance upped the ante later in the book.

This book was given to me for free at my request for my voluntary and unbiased review.

Slow to start but worth sticking with!

I'm always on the lookout for a good werewolf horror and was excited to start this, and while it was a little slow to get going, it was still a great read.

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. Once the action started, it was fast paced and brutal! It starts with a man looking for answers to a legend from some natives, but ends up being infected with a virus that changes him every month. Then we learn of a gruesome set so murders happening and Meg thinks she knows what's doing it! She sets out to investigate and meets a beast! Luckily she escapes, but no one believes her story except a journalist, a private eye and a horror writer. They set out to get answers and when a suspect is arrested, and confesses to the murders, they know he is speaking the truth. He is kept in a cell until the time he is supposed to turn. Skeptical people, as well as the 4 believers, pile in to see if his story is true. What will happen when they turn up to witness the transformation?

There were quite a few characters to keep track of, but overall they were all well written and developed. I liked Meg as she knew in her heart what was killing people and despite being terrified, she knew she had to get the truth! Doug, Nick and Blake were all great characters too, but I think my favourite was the boy!

In all, I ended up devouring this book! After the initial set up and meeting the characters, the action really got going and I couldn't read it fast enough. It was bloody, gory, tense, terrifying and everything a great werewolf horror should be. I'm really hoping they bring the next book to audio soon because the ending left me wanting more.

Edison McDaniels read this well and was able to bring the story alive. He had a wide array of tones and voices and his portrayal of the wolf was awesome. I'll have to check out more by him.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

different take on a werewolf origin story

I recieved this book free of charge for an honest review . it was kind of a cool story, kept a decent pace going throughout though I'd like to have seen more from the wolf characters side though it was good and could have been an episode of twilight zone or another" what if " type shows i cant help but feel it played out like a scooby doo episode aimed at adults. worth a listen it kept a steady flow with just enough filler info to keep you in the loop between attacks.

The Hyde Effect

Four people brought together by circumstance but forming a strong unbreakable bond. Three men and a woman each with their own agendas find themselves fighting to prove the existence of something that only exists in our nightmares. Can they find the proof that they need and survive with more than just their pride?

This was a captivating story. It was nice to see the bond that formed between the main characters and the fight that they took to the rest of the world. The origin of the werewolf was an interesting one. Each of the characters stood out in their own way, including the werewolf. Making the story more enjoyable with both likeable and disagreeable characters. The author weaves an entertaining story with a good amount of horror and gore to keep you interested all the way to the end. Narrator Edison McDaniels brings this world to life nicely. He speaks clearly and at a good pace and I was quickly pulled into the story.

Heart thumping page Turner!

I must start by saying I was given this Audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
The Hyde Effect Is an absolute page turner. It's unique, frightening and most certainly not your run of the mill monster story. I've found myself with very little sleep the last few days, finding it nearly impossible to hit the pause button for the night. I can honestly say that I've never Listened to a better werewolf book! The narration is absolutely outstanding Giving it the proverbial cherry on top of the cake! THIS BOOK GRABS YOU FROM PAGE ONE!

One of the greatest werewolf horror stories ever t

Engrossing from start to finish. Had a few unexpected surprises that seem odd at first, but add depth to the overall direction of the story.
