About this listen

With her 40th birthday approaching, Lucy Carpenter dares to hope that she finally has it all: a wonderful new husband, Jonah, a successful career and the chance of a precious baby of her own. Life couldn't be more perfect.

But the reality of becoming parents proves much harder than Lucy and Jonah imagined. Jonah's love and support is unquestioning, but as Lucy struggles with work and her own failing dreams, the strain on their marriage increases. Suddenly it feels like Lucy is close to losing everything...

Heart-wrenching and poignant, this latest work by best-selling author Amanda Prowse asks the question: what does it mean to be a mother in today's hectic world? And what if it's asking too much to want it all?

Great story

The story is quite sad and heartbreaking but very well written. HOWEVER, the author does an awful job resting the book. It’s hard to distinguish who is speaking in the story, because she doesn’t even try to change her voice. It’s the same high-pitched voice and tone throughout the entire story. If someone else was reading the book, it may have been more enjoyable. It was really hard for me to get through the book.

Heartfelt but Not My Cup of Tea

This turned out to be not my type of book. Lucy and Jonah is a married couple that has to deal with some of the hardest issues a married couple goes through. There was blending families, miscarriages, and a lack of communication when dealing emotionally with those issues. There were some very heartbreaking moments especially when dealing with the miscarriages. Any woman that has gone through that devastation would be able to relate emotionally. Any woman that has had to deal with blending a family would be able to relate. Although there were moments that I felt irritated with the actions taken in the end it was a touching story.

The Idea of You

I love the way Amanda writes about emotions and life, the way the stories evolve and this book is no exxeption. A brilliant story written by a brilliant writer. Make sure you have time to read/listen to this book, as you are not going to want to put it down. The narration was excellent.
