About this listen

With a longing for adventure, the last thing Phillipa Peppiwell wants is to marry. After a painful betrayal by a man she trusted, she is wary when she unwittingly catches the attention of roguishly handsome - and sinfully tempting - Lord Anthony Thornton. Forbidden desires she secretly yearns for threaten to crumble her icy facade and reveal a past scandal best kept buried.

Dissatisfied with his empty life, Lord Anthony seeks a deep and lasting connection... and finds himself intrigued by the Ice Maiden of the haute monde. Undaunted by Phillipa's aloof nature and her distaste for the idea of matrimony, he sets out to thaw the bewitching beauty by enticing her with adventures of the most sensual type. But he, too, hides a scandalous secret... and if it's discovered it could rip them apart.

This is the first, not the second!

Whoever decided to tell THIS story AFTER the other made a mistake. Knowing how it ends and most of the story before it began makes it an awful bore! My biggest problem is that I want to know if the end of this book gives away the first book or if this one was actually the first after all. Of course that would still ruin this one! But I just can't do it. I'm not in love with the delivery or desirous of the missing details to go any farther. Three hours from the end and I quit. I figure this way book three will get to be unexpected for sure since I really do like the series so far....

Flawed

The author depends on far too many repeated phrases from book to book which takes one out of the story. Also the voice actor has a tendency to mispronounce many words which grates on the nerves of the listener. For instance pronouncing the word rabid as though it rhymes with haybed.

Pretty hot

I think the best thing about this book were the sex scenes. A few pretty steamy scenes but could’ve gotten a little more wicked. The narrators voice reading was fine but didn’t like the way she made the two main characters sound. A couple parts I felt like reaching through and strangling someone. But not a bad book. I intend on finding out if this is part of a series and if so will be listening to them. I loved everything about Anthony and hope theirs a book about his brother!

Good story

The story was really good. it was hinted at in the first book, but now you get the meat of it. I like the overlap of the stories because it lends continuity to the series. The narrator did a decent job.

Hard to get past the narration

Given how much I enjoy this author, I suspect I’d bump the ratings up with a different narrator.
The male voices are unsexy and the female voices are nasal, and therefore I felt zero chemistry.

Additionally, the character traits contradicted their backstory. For example, Phillippa is supposed to be this ice princess, yet the whole reason she’s been moved from Boston to London is for a fresh start because of her passionate nature. I kind of bought the explanation of him seeing the hidden fire beneath … but mostly didn’t.

Finally, I was a little put off by the repeated phrases of her tongue darting out, his lust “punching” him, how wet she got for him, and her “core” aching. Anthony’s penchant for the dom-y stuff was delicious.
I just couldn’t get past the narration and truly get behind the romance.

The awful narrator ruins it!

Anna Parker-Naples is a terrible voice actor. Her accents are bad, her inflections are off, and she mispronounces a LOT. How is this a professional recording? This is one of those audiobooks so bad that it upsets me Audible doesn't do a better job screening for basic quality standards. Shame on them for charging money for this and shame on me for buying it.

Great Story,

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A different narrator.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell?

When the heroine decided to marry the hero, despite his circumstance of birth.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She made the hero sound wimpy. Did not even try to deepen her voice to make him sound male at all. He sounded like a weak, feminine dandy.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell?

All the scenes where the narrator played the hero.
