About this listen

Although she hadn’t known Leonard Mallett very well, nor liked him particularly, Carole Seddon feels duty bound to attend her fellow committee member’s funeral.

As she suspected, the hymns, readings, and sermon are all very predictable - not unlike Leonard himself. What she couldn’t have predicted was that the deceased’s daughter would use the occasion to publicly accuse her stepmother of murder.

Did Heather Mallett really kill her husband, as many Fethering residents believe?

Deciding to get to the heart of the matter, Carole’s neighbor, Jude, joins the new community choir - and discovers that amidst the clashing egos and petty resentments lurk some decidedly false notes.

I absolutely love the series and become sad when thinking it may end soon. It’s cozy, amusing, mysteries smartly written, and great narration.

Fabulous as ever

I am never disappointed with Carroll and Jude. Their mysteries are always entertaining with realistic characters several motives. This one was no different. I especially like that the author gives a epilogue at the end that tells the future of the characters. Simon Brett does a pretty good job as narrator.

Fun and cozy

Some of the other reviews suggested that this book might have more uncomfortable material than the other books, however, I found that the author remained true to his style and kept all gore and details out of any crime discussed. It was a typical Jude and Carol mystery. If you’ve liked this series so far, I think you’d enjoy this one also.

Another good book in the series

I have read every single one of the Fethering mystery series and I am spitting MAD that Simon Brett has chosen to become “Modern” in this last one,… I expect gentle, genteel ,gentlemanly prose from him and have been left with simmering anger that this atrocity of a story was foist on me unknowingly…!!
It had better be his last..!!

Incest, Suicidal Thoughts, Abuse, ..Simon,..!! What were you THINKING ..??!!
