About this listen

A sweet, tender middle-grade story of two boys finding first love with each other over a seaside summer.

Jeremy is not excited about the prospect of spending the summer with his dad and his uncle in a seaside cabin in Oregon. It's the first summer after his parents' divorce, and he hasn't exactly been seeking alone time with his dad. He doesn't have a choice, though, so he goes...and on his first day takes a walk on the beach and finds himself intrigued by a boy his age running by. Eventually, he and Runner Boy (Evan) meet--and what starts out as friendship blooms into something neither boy is expecting... and also something both boys have been secretly hoping for.

Well written

Sweet, simple teenage love story expressed through the eyes of teenage boys. Narrator was clear and clear with the right emotion at right time.

Great story

The narration for this book was excellent. A story worth listening to. I can imagine this making an excellent film adaptation.

Almost a huge mistake

I can’t remember buying this title, and a few days ago, when I started listening to it, I began wondering what possessed me to even give it a try. It turns out to be about two 12-year-olds. So of course I tried to return it. Why would I possibly want to listen to a kids story? But I apparently bought the book during a sale and could not get my credit back. Angry but unwilling to waste my money, I decided to listen to it at least for the hour it takes me to get to work. In that time the author began to sweep me away. Everything — the story, writing, voice acting — was stunningly beautiful, just pitch perfect. I felt like I was growing up all over again, and it was wonderful.

An amazing tale of transition from childhood to adulthood.

The author truly captures the innocence of youth, and the struggle of growing beyond it. The orator did an impeccable job of bringing the characters to life.

Gentle yet heartwarming

So refreshing. No overly complicated plot typical of many LGBTQ+ stories. Just a tender, honest, and heartwarming story of first love. I smiled, I laughed, I cried. So beautiful narrated too.

The innocence of young love

A beautiful, gentle story of young love set against a family in turmoil, Jeremy and Evan discover their feelings for each other during a summer on the Oregon shore. Solidly written and gorgeously narrated.
