Publisher's summary

In this powerful, all-encompassing YA love story, a girl who becomes a grim reaper must figure out what the future holds—especially when it comes to the girlfriend she left behind.

When Ashana Persaud meets Poppy Morgan on a school trip, she’s sure it’s too good to be true. Ash has never had much luck with girls, but Poppy proves different. Coffee dates turn to museum trips until, soon, the two girls can see a future together—one that’s seemingly snatched from them when a hit-and-run takes Ash’s life on New Year’s Eve.

As the last person to die before midnight, Ash is bestowed the title of reaper, tasked with finding lost souls and helping them cross over. Only those close to death can perceive a reaper, so when Ash runs into Poppy one lonely night—and Poppy recognizes her—they can't be sure if it's the second chance they've so desperately wished for, or a tragedy lying in wait.

very sweet and sad

This book had a little of everything, lots of sweet and funny moments of a first, all consuming love, and the heart breaking moments of the death of yourself and loved ones. it is sad, but never overwhelmingly so, though the undertones are often dark. lots of commentary on knowing how to live.

Mixed feelings

Okay I got mixed feelings about this. Part 1(Before) Was great. Amazing 10/10 but part 2(After) a complete mess. I wholeheartedly belive 2 different people wrote each part because there's no way you can go from something so wholesome and hearty to something so unbelievably and the complete opposite. If you skip chapters 1-13 in part 2 then it would be considered decent but it still brings down the 4* story to 3.

This one got me.

As I picked this up at my local book store after reading the cover 50 times over the last 6 months, I decided it had to be mine. & it definitely did not disappoint. I could not put it down, needing to turn the page to know what would happen next. I loved getting to know the characters in both life & death. This book will tug at your heart & make you miss the ones you lost, while also giving you hope that you will meet them again, beyond the sea. To the author: thank you for writing again. Half way through the book I found myself wondering who your “Poppy” was. This beautiful writing could only come from loss felt first hand. Part two, chapter 26. Pages 353-355. Wow. Thank you so much for those words, you will never know how badly I needed to read them In this moment. Thank you!

Great reading, extremely mediocre story

I love lesbian fiction. I love exploring various genres within lesbian fiction. This sounded right up my alley and I really enjoyed the first part. But then part two started and it took a sharp turn into such ridiculous unrealism that I could barely struggle through the rest.

great start. patchy finish.

i believed the characters and i felt them falling in love. adored that part of the book. the plot of "after" felt a little patchy. "what about this huge problem?" "barely an inconvenience actually"

great book

great book, sweet and sad. like how it was before and after. for the people who thought it had a rough ending their wrong. the book handles the after life which is a touchy subject considering religion and what you believe in. only concern is that they kinda said if you believe in nothing then your not going anywhere in the afterlife which i felt was a dig at atheism. overall great book, you should read it.

It was cute.

This was a good palate cleanser book for me if that makes sense. It was a nice break from the books I’ve been reading which are heavy world building and character building. I went into this with no expectations or even what it was about other than sapphic. Which is all you had to tell me honestly lol. YA young love with a twist. I was expecting more closure at the end of the book but overall a fun listen.

I loved it

Listen, I'm a softy for romance and this angsty romance really pulled me in. I am newer to audiobooks, and honestly... back on the "book/reading" side of the world, too. This was a really easy listen, it kept me interested the whole time and I never wanted to stop listening. There are touching, moving moments and then angsty moody moments as well. Must read.

Stunning

I loved this book so much. It’s a bittersweet love story and definitely worth the read. The ending was so frustrating! I would love a sequel but I don’t think she will make one…

This is non explicit which would be great for young adults or people who don’t like that sort of thing. This books also has great poc representation!

I feel like this is a good book to help someone through grief. It has a beautiful way of describing death.

The only reason why I didn’t give this a better rating is because their is some slight transphobic comments in one scene and that is definitely not okay. The author should do better!!
