About this listen

The Faoii have protected Clearwall for generations. With militaristic order and stalwart discipline, these women have reigned in prosperity. But when her monastery is attacked and her sisters slaughtered, only young Kaiya-faoii is left alive.

Forced to cope without the long-standing traditions of her Order, Kaiya travels the country on a mission to avenge her sisters and preserve what is left of her heritage. The search brings her not only to dark discoveries and ancient family secrets, but to something she never wanted or dreamed of: a brother she never knew she had.

Thrust into a war at the heart of a broken empire, the siblings must evaluate the true meanings of enemy, betrayal, and freedom - and the gray areas surrounding each. Kaiya slowly learns the true state of the world outside her monastery's walls, the dangers of the poisonous army that is slowly covering the land, and of her own innate abilities gifted by the Goddess.

Great story, Interesting ending.

Overall good pace to the story, rarely dull. Narrator unfortunately didn't quite fit the characters.

Best story read in a long time!

Loved this story! The author is definitely talented and has a way of using words to grab hold and paint a great picture. Cannot wait to read more from Tahani Nelson. Way to go girl you have put words to paper and created a wonderful story.

did the narrator ruin this one for me?

I'm conflicted about this story. I think I liked the concept, but I had a really hard time getting into the story. around chapter I started to feel like I was invested and around chapter 32 I found myself wanting to know what was going to happen next. at that point though, things got really weird and crazy and I had a hard time following around. I am wondering if the narrator had something to do with it. he read well, but there was no change in her voice throughout the story. when exciting things happened she used the exact same voice when there were peaceful times. I would have liked to have felt the emotion while I listened to this one.

Visceral and Intense

4.25 out of 5 stars

I normally don’t look at other reviews before writing mine since I don’t want to be affected by what they wrote or said but The Last Faoii left me feeling confused. Not in a bad way but I couldn’t put the book into words. In my head, that’s a good thing since it means that it was something new and unique that I couldn’t quickly bucket into a word or feeling.

The feeling that I think I was trying to figure out was intensely visceral. The book was real and deep and dark at times, but I thought that Nelson did a wonderful job writing a world, characters, and an overall story arc that kept me going “just a few more minutes” until it was late into the night.

Fantasy isn’t normally my jam and Epic Fantasy is even less, but there was something about The Last Faoii that pulled me in and held on. I couldn’t stop reading it and I wanted to figure out what was going to happen minute after minute.

The only issues I had with it were probably more personal and an issue related to the genre and the tropes surrounding it. I won’t even air them here since there isn’t a major reason to put a black eye on an otherwise great book.

Nelson’s work was only elevated by Morsey’s narration. She was able to take an already good book and turn it into something better. I love when a narrator is able to embody a work like I felt that Morsey did with The Last Faoii.

Overall, an enjoyable work of Epic Fantasy that had me staying up way too late to get through another chapter.

Action and the Twists^/!

I enjoyed this book. It is action packed. The ties that Kaya has with her sisters and a family member she finds are very strong and emotional. She learns she was turned over to the order to be protected and in the end has to pull the order together to protect the weak. There are twists that will wow you and somethings that will make you feel betrayal but this story is a must read. Thoroughly satisfying fantasy drama. Narration would have been better with a male voice added but the one was well done as a storyteller. Enjoy.

Excellent Storytelling

Between the narration by Sara Morsey, and the storytelling by Tahani Nelson, this book was, to be quite honest, addictive. I would find myself, sitting in my car, captivated by the story, lost in the other world. It is a must listen to, story, and I am eager to dive into that would again, and again.

An Absolute Masterwork

The merits of this book cannot be overstated.
The Last Faoii is a phenomenal story of tense action, deep emotion, engaging mystery, and raw inspiration. The world is intricately crafted and wholly original, unlike anything else even the most avid of fantasy readers has seen before. It captures your attention and holds you rapt from chapter to chapter. The plot is intricate and multifaceted, enough to keep delivering new surprises at every turn, but never so much that it becomes difficult to follow.
Kaiya is one of the strongest protagonists I've seen in years. We see her jump from crisis of identity to crisis of family to crisis of faith over and over throughout the story, and each time she is brought down by one of these crises, we see her find her footing once again, stronger than ever. This is always done in such a sincere and emotionally truthful way it is impossible not to feel it resonate with your own personal experiences each time, creating a pure empathetic bond between the reader and the protagonist that is almost impossible to achieve. Not only is Kaiya compelling and inspiring as a character, she's a vital addition to the literary world. This is the kind of character that shapes the lives of its readers forever.
Sara Morsey's delivery is perfectly suited to the tone of this story, and beautifully conveys the emotional depth of each scene in perfect nuanced detail. Her strong and sincere performance draws you into the world all the more, making you feel as if you are hearing this story recounted around a crackling fire at a Faoii war camp by a veteran warrior who was there in the thick of it.
I could praise this book endlessly (and it would deserve it), but nothing I can say will do justice to the pure excellence of this story. It defies comparison, it defies summation, and I defy you to read it and not fall in love with it.

Wow! Just… wow!

An amazing story with a gripping plot -and a few plot twists- that I stopped only for sleep.

The character development was thoroughly done and what few questions I had were later answered.

Audiobooks are an all-day thing for me and this was one of the best. Well written and excellently narrated.

Well done!
