About this listen

Fans of The 5th Wave will devour this heart-pounding sci-fi novel about a girl with a secret: on a near-future Earth taken over by aliens, she is the only human left alive.

Raised among them.

Li has a father and a sister who love her. A best friend, Mirabae, to share things with. She goes to school and hangs out at the beach and carefully follows the rules. She has to. Everyone she knows - her family, her teachers, her friends - is an alien. And she is the only human left on Earth.

A secret that could end her life.

The Abdoloreans hijacked the planet 16 years ago, destroying all human life. Li's human-sympathizer father took her in as a baby and has trained her to pass as one of them. The Abdoloreans appear human. But they don't think with human minds or feel with human hearts. And they have special abilities no human could ever have.

Fit in or die.

When Li meets Ryn, she's swept up in a relationship that could have disastrous consequences. How far will Li go to stay alive? Will she save herself - and in turn, the human race - or will she be the final witness to humanity's destruction?

Light sci-fi romance

Interesting story about courage and hiding one’s identity. Very minimal sexual content more implication than anything. Would recommend.

Neat novel

This was a solid sci-fi novel about a girl named Li who is the last one on Earth. It's a pretty short listen (only about 6.5 hours), but Guest does a good job keeping you engaged for most of it. There were some parts where my mind wandered off and I had to consciously pull myself back in, as well as some parts where the development of the story could've improved, but I found it did not massively strip me of any joy I felt in listening. I would recommend this to sci-fi lovers. Story: 3/5, Narrator: 3/5

A beautiful tale of survival

An audible representative suggested this book, and after reading the premise, I was quick to listen.
A story of love, identity, survival, and the lengths you will go to for the ones you unconditionally love.

Mixed on this one

The narrator is really good. The writing is good too.
Right off though I'm annoyed with the character, she doesn't feel real or like she's constant. She can't do this or that with her bestie or sister, comes off as sad she cant but strong and resilient. Yet. A boy looks at her. That's all it takes to throw it all away and risk everything. And I mean literally looked, they never even spoke. Her best friend doesnt even question why now all of a sudden?

Pleasantly Surprised

I got this as my free book with my free trial here on Audible. While horror is my go-to genre, sci-fi is a close second. And it's for teens-young adults. (More for teens, so I found.) I enjoyed the story development and sympathized with the protagonist throughout her journey. However, I find the book falls short when it comes to the ending. It felt unfinished. It wasn't wrapped up nicely. The protagonist and her love interest go off into the unknown and that's it that's the end. What happens when they both leave town? Is there going to be another book? So overall, I enjoyed it. It's a nice read. The narrator is really nice. But it's unfinished in the end.

Predictable and Irritating Characters

I know characters aren't always meant to be likable but man I really couldn't stand these characters, I was yelling at them throughout the entire book. The main character is just a punching bag to everyone including herself. The decisions characters make are annoying and predictable. Any time a character gets a love interest they immediately act like they've known each other for 20 years and like they can't like without each other. In my opinion this book is less mature than Twilight and I'm so bummed! This book was called a "bisexual 5th wave" on the internet so I really wanted to love it but I don't think it's anything like The 5th Wave and bisexuality? Where? Maybe in the background for a second but that's it, maybe it happens more in the sequels but I can't sit through more of this lol. Sorry.

Captivatingly, but...

Captivating but why do you need to add sexual content into a book for teens? Also why do you need to add content of lesbians? This ruined it for me.
