About this listen

As a weaponized vaccine creates worldwide panic, a quirky pathologist discovers his boss is a mad scientist obsessed with exploring the limits of medicine, no matter the cost.

Atlanta, GA, 2050. Dr. Avit Arceneaux lives each day with the scars of science without ethics. As a clone, his eyes, inner ear, and kidney were harvested before clone rights were even recognized. Nevertheless, Avit is a hot mess with glaring potential. A research pathologist on the Panacea Team, he investigates glitches in a vaccine that promises functional immortality.

When Surgeon General Story Patout personally requests a stat autopsy of a young soldier, Avit’s findings could not be more shocking. The young soldier rotted from the inside out.

Avit alerts Patout, the chaos in a white lab coat, but instead of halting the inoculation drive, the megalomaniac targets Avit and forcibly subjects him to a genetic manipulation project. As the soldier’s death goes unexplained and the vaccine unleashes a global pandemic, Avit is besieged by his changing DNA signature.

Can Avit stop the devastating consequences of medical catastrophe? Who died? Who didn’t?

The Last Plague is the first pulse-pounding book of the author’s exhilarating medical thriller series. If you like pause-resisting action, mind-bending twists and turns, and alarming dystopias, then you’ll love Dawn C. Crouch’s emotionally relentless tale.

Man-Made Vaccine Goes So Wrong!

This book, written by Dawn C. Crouch, is an action-packed medical thriller with a created virus, clones, a couple of power-hungry fiends, and intrigue! A possible vaccine to prevent chronic illness and prolong one’s life longevity is really a man-made virus that wipes out 80% of the world population. A clone whose DNA signature is changing is at the core of trying to right the wrongs and find a cure. The Last Plague has a well-developed plot with significant twists and interesting side characters.

Crouch is methodical and clear in her writing. She does not make any huge plot leaps that could leave the listener confused. The story flows smoothly as does the dialog and character development. Each step of the book is detailed and realistic.
The narrator, Daena Schweiger, gives a solid performance with rich voices and the right amount of tone inflections. Her voices project the right amount of personality so that one can feel the weariness, the pain of childbirth, and lost love to name a few. Schweiger gives a straightforward performance with just enough of a storyteller style.

This is a good book, one that captures the feelings and experiences of today as well as leaving one hopeful with the ending. No spoilers here! I would encourage anyone who enjoys forensic or genetic thrillers to give this book a listen. You will not regret it.

The production quality is clear and succinct. There were no issues.

A captivating sci-fi adventure with disturbing twi

"The Last Plague" by Dawn C. Crouch is a great novel that perfectly combines elements of science fiction with medical thriller and touches of dystopia. From the beginning, this book will immerse us in a devastated future where a scientific advance promises us immortality, which will trigger a great global pandemic. The story takes place in Atlanta in the year 2050 and follows Dr. Avicenna "Avit" Arceneaux, a pathologist and genetically modified clone, as he fights to survive in a world that has been brought to the brink of collapse.
Crouch constructs a dark, detailed universe where scientific complexities and ethical dilemmas brilliantly intertwine. The protagonist, Avit, is a fascinating character: complex, with a genetic identity that is constantly questioned, but also with a humanity that shines in the midst of chaos. The evolution of his character, as he struggles to discover the truth behind the plague and face his own fears, is absorbing.
The narrative is characterized by a fast pace and a constant tension build. Unexpected twists and scientific revelations add layers of mystery and suspense that keep you glued to the page. The setting of a world marked by despair and distrust in science makes each page more disturbing than the last.
If you are a fan of science fiction, suspense plots and reflections on medical ethics, "The Last Plague" is a book that you cannot miss. The author has created an intriguing and action-packed work, with memorable characters and a plot that will make you reflect long after you have finished the book. Definitely recommended!

surprised

I wasn't familiar with this author and I had read/listened to some books recently that set the bar very high. This book surprised me but keeping that vibe going.

Great character development without sacrificing the speed of the action. I look forward to far more from this author
