Publisher's summary

Obsession. Magic. Revenge. Freedom and love have never been so deadly.

My ex-lover is a psychopath, hunting me down for revenge. I am falling in love with his enemy. And I am the last Arcane Witch left alive, destined to return magic to the modern world.

My whole life, I have been a prisoner. Starved. Beaten. Hated. By my own family! But most of all, I am feared. I am feared because I am the most powerful woman in the world. Most want me dead. Some want to control my magic for their own dark desires. To others, I am salvation. A key to winning a war that has raged for 500 years between those who can use magic, and hunters, who dedicate their entire existence to killing anyone with magic in their blood. I am released from my chains and thrown into a world I am supposed to save. A world that has made me suffer beyond words. Magic must return. But should it?

Please Note: This is a dark, paranormal fantasy romance series and contains explicit content and darker elements, including mature language, violence, torture, and non-consensual sex. It is not intended for anyone under 18 years of age.

An Absolute MUST Read!

This story had me wanting more at every turn and never failed to deliver! From the way the narrator brought the characters to life to how each character's story unfolded over time. Ms Hooper definitely has a list and vow to see completed and I can't wait to see how she goes about it!

Roller Coaster of Emotions

The narrator was excellent! She really embodies Lilly’s struggles so well. I have already read the trilogy and was ecstatic when the audio was released! It definitely lived up to expectations! The story is incredibly and if you can just hold on until the end, it is SO very worth it! The growth of Lilly is absolutely amazing throughout the trilogy and I can’t wait to continue listening with the next two books!

How do you start on a level 7 and keep it between 8-10 for an entire book

I still can’t believe that this book starts so drastic and hardcore, I really enjoyed this book and and it kept me involved and excited for the next twist,

Phew, what a ride that was

Another M. J. Lawrie story that raised my blood pressure, gave me heart palpitations and caused my stomach to sink all the way to my feet CONTINUALLY. At this point, I've come to expect it with any of her works. The Last Witch is no different.

Story-
Extremely compelling plot line that was quite original in comparison to similarly themed works. There's a distinct but very small feeling of dread that I found myself feeling throughout large portions of the story which would be validated once another of the many jaw dropping twists or betrayals would be revealed.

Strong heroine who only gets stronger both emotionally and physically throughout the story as she consolidates her past with all she's now learning about what it means to be a witch of her caliber. Love interests that give you whiplash and lots of pause. Just fantastic all around, I don't wanna get too much into it to avoid spoilers but I am super excited to see where this continues in the next books!

Performance -
Terrific narration by Amy Putt! Differentiation between characters was great, cadence and enunciation was great and I didn't need to rewind to get another listen unless I myself wasn't paying attention the first time around. You could certainly get the most out of this story by any way you choose to consume it!

FLEW through the whole series!

TL;DR at the end
If you like Anne Rice's "The Mayfair Witches", you're going to love The Last Witch by M.J. Lawrie! Thrilling, suspenseful, heartbreaking and tragic, victories and losses, love, rage and peace- this series will have your emotions walking the plank, only to land in a well hidden lifeboat, waiting to take you to safety… until the twist and it's back on the plank again and twisted through it all is MAGIC! Part love story, part family drama with the broken becoming heroes, then becoming villains, then broken again and heroes once more, only to… well, I don't want to give anything away so I'll just say this- I used my Audible credit to get the first book, then bought more credits and burned through two more in less than a week because I couldn't stop listening! I try to give completely honest reviews and point out anything I didn't like (since very few books are entirely perfect). The one thing that kept thumping my brain in a distracting way was constantly referring to the ground outside as "the floor", but that may just be one of my personal peculiarities. It certainly didn't stop me from becoming utterly intoxicated with the story. This was my introduction to M.J. Lawrie and it made me an instant, enthusiastic fan! I must say, I am in genuine despair that volume 3.5 isn't available on Audible! Life currently makes it nearly impossible for me to read a physical book, so all of my "reading" is actually listening and I can't find an audiobook of the last installment in this series ANYWHERE, which is terribly disappointing because I'm desperate to hear every bit of this story there is to know!

Apologies, dear reader, for writing my own novel for a review.

TL;DR If you like magic and love and revenge and battle and witches… this series was written for you!

The MC was the most irritating!

the whole book was a high powered MC causing death and destruction, then whining about killing and literally giving abusive and manipulative men power over her again and again. Meanwhile the men are arrogant and extremely hypocritical, of her!
the cliff hanger at the end may entice me to listen to one more but I'm not sure!
