About this listen

A mystery, a love story, and a search through a shadowy past. Two strangers unite in this novel of family secrets by international bestselling author Marc Levy, the most read contemporary French author in the world.

When London journalist Eleanor-Rigby Donovan receives an anonymous letter alluding to a crime committed by her deceased mother, her life is turned upside down. It points her to a bar on the Baltimore Harbor, where she finds a stranger who has received the same mysterious letter about his own mother. Together, Eleanor-Rigby and this young man, George-Harrison Collins, embark on a quest through the shadowy past of the Stanfields, a moneyed Maryland family full of unimaginable secrets. These secrets will transport them back decades, across continents, and to a mysterious crime long buried…until now.

Interesting, but ....

This book was fun, had some great characters. But it twist a bit too much. It seems like it is difficult to be sure all the threads come together. But overall a fun listen.

Excellent!

Starts off a bit slow but not for long. I didn’t want to stop listening! A captivating story with twists along the way and a final unexpected twist at the end.
So glad I took a chance and got this book.

Memorable

A fun and imaginative romp with lots of humor in the opening chapters. The book lags a bit in the middle, with the search tor answers taking on the feel of a scavenger hunt as the protagonists race from one seemingly omniscient narrator to the next to collect chunks of the puzzle. The narrator goes into newsreader mode for these episodss, but I'm not sure she could have done anything else. Anyway, it's worth persevering to the twists and turns that being everything together. Lots of great elements and layers. They don't always come together believably, but overall it's an intriguing story.

Such fun!

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. The characters were well fleshed out and the multiple timelines kept things interesting all the way through. This story beautifully illustrates how vastly different a situation can appear based on the perspective of those involved. The narrators did a terrific job with their characters. You can tell which character is talking even without being told outright by the author.
I'm already trying to decide which of Mr. Levy's books I'll read/ listen to next. If "The Last of the Stanfields" is any indication, I'm going to love it.

Good and well structured page turner

It is a good book easy to read and enjoy, the kind of well written book one brings on vacation: engaging but not too deep.
