About this listen

The 'master of the wartime spy thriller' (Financial Times) returns with the gripping follow up to the best-selling A Prince and a Spy, as Tom Wilde is sent to Germany to investigate the truth behind Hitler's death....

Germany, late summer 1945.

The war is over, but the country is in ruins. Millions of refugees and holocaust survivors strive to rebuild their lives in displaced persons camps. Millions of German soldiers and SS men are held captive in primitive conditions in open-air detention centres. Everywhere, civilians are desperate for food and shelter. No one admits to having voted Nazi, yet many are unrepentant.

Adolf Hitler is said to have killed himself in his Berlin bunker. But no body was found - and many people believe he is alive. Newspapers are full of stories reporting sightings and theories. Even Stalin, whose own troops captured the bunker, has told President Truman he believes the former Führer is not dead. Day by day, American and British intelligence officers subject senior members of the Nazi regime to gruelling interrogation in their quest for their truth.

Enter Tom Wilde - the Cambridge professor and spy sent in to find out the truth....

Great historical novel

I love novels that can weave real history into a fictional story. this novel does that very well.

Well worth the credit

Found this one on the “suggested” list and it was a winner. Wasn’t familiar with any of Clement’s other works, or even this series, but had no problem following. Real life characters were portrayed accurately. The crazy bunker melodrama has always been historically fascinating to me and the author did a good job weaving a story from it.

Narrator was good. Wasn’t familiar with Mr. Sims either but a fine job. Plenty of variation in voices, even for the same language. This is always a tough assignment but he gets it done.

Blew threw it in 2 days at work, always a good sign for me!

Exciting and suspenseful and great story set against end of ww2.betrayal and a little romance

What I disliked immensely and took off a star for was totally unnecessary use of the Lords name in vain. Almost no other profanity other than this . This author is fantastic in league with Wilbur smith , Robert

Not Worth It

The narrator is over dramatic in his performance and the writing and style is sub par
