About this listen

Private investigator Jack Pellum has spent two years searching for the man he believes murdered his wife - a man he last saw wearing a peacoat and a fedora. Months of posting flyers and combing through crime records yields no leads. Then a local writer commits suicide, and he leaves a bewildering message that may be the first breadcrumb in a winding trail of unsolved murders....

Michael Underhill is a philosophical man preoccupied by what-ifs and could-have-beens, but his life is finally coming together. He has a sweet and beautiful girlfriend, and, together, they're building their future home. Nothing will go wrong - not if Underhill has anything to say about it, but the problem is that he has a dark and secret past, and it's coming back to haunt him. Inexorably drawn together, these two men find themselves caught up in a mystery where there is far more than what meets the eye, and nothing can be taken for granted.

another fascinating book by Harry Dolan

this is the fourth book that I have read by Harry Dolan. He continues to be an engaging writer who slowly unfolds a fascinating story with a literary Style. Being from Michigan, I really enjoyed all the references to Detroit and Ann Arbor. I look forward to reading his next book.

Dolan does it again

Dolan has maintained his standard. Another good book , it is very rare for writers to keep the standard....

Crazy Glue'd Me To Story

It's the story and perhaps Joel Richards' ingeniously eccentric reading. Of course it's Jack Richard, the novel's protagonist's, monomaniacal fixation. In addition it's the complexity of the really really really bad guy's own sociopathic drivers.

Oh... sorry, I'm thinking with my fingers here, trying to answer why or what works so well in Harry Dolan's "Man With The Crooked Hat" to have - well...

Year's ago there was a TV ad for some crazy glue that bonded a man's hat to a high steel girder with the guy dangling below. And that's the way this book kept me suspended. Hmmmm.... suspended... suspense. Uh-huh, Dolan and Richards have made a suspense novel here.

In fact, this is as much a perilous chase story as a murder puzzle since the who/why bafflers evaporate about Halfway into the book... Leaving one question, um, dangling: How's this all going to end? What happens when a monomaniac meets a sociopath in a death match?

Here's what happens in "The Man With The Crooked Hat". Which has baited me to hunt out another book by Harry Dolan.

Slow burn

This is a quiet and understated book with a good and complicated plot that develops gradually to finally reach a calm conclusion. It’s an interesting take on a whodunnit and works well as long as you’re not looking for pyrotechnics.

Great writing and fantastic narration!

I checked around for more stories starring Jack Pellam, and am so bummed that this might be the only book. I thoroughly enjoyed this character's personality and will continue to PRAY for a Jack Pellam series!!

Blah blah

Nothing going on. So repetitive. Very frustrating to find out the difference between the way a book is described and the actual story.

Slow and boring.

Not exactly the thriller advertised. Anticlimactic and inconclusive ending. Most frustrating and unsatisfying. Narrator has a somniferous affect.
