Publisher's summary

The Maze Runner just got hilarious!

When Thomas wakes up in a dark elevator, he has no idea where he is, or even who he is! But he soon finds out he's trapped in a giant maze with 50 dudes and no chicks.

That's right, no chicks.

Welcome to the Sausage Fest.

Faced with this horrible nightmare, Thomas must figure out how to escape. But until then, he'll be shoveling lots of klunk and hangin' with lots of dudes.

Talk about a bummer. A maze bummer.

The Maze Bummer is the hilarious new parody of The Maze Runner, written by top parody author Steve Lookner (Saturday Night Live, The Harvard Lampoon).

Will Thomas ever get to hang out with a girl again? Find out...in The Maze Bummer!

So dumb

Definitely not for younger kids. I do wish I had read it before them as way too sexual for that age. That said, they (elementary aged) thought it was hilarious and I ultimately got a kick out of it on my drive to work.

said the BOOMING voice

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story was funny and silly. Just as promised. My son and I listened to the story on the way back to college. We shared some good laughs. Thanks Mr. Lookner. The parody followed the Maze Runner nicely.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Mr. Brinkley's comedic timing was good. Unfortunately, my son and I thought the "said Thomas...said Newt...said Theresa" were so booming and loud that they became a distraction from the storyline. This is the only reason we gave the overall rating 3 stars.

The production almost felt like it was done in two parts...the narration...then the dialogue. There was a disconnect every time the narrator Boomed into the scene. There was no need to have a female narrate Theresa character. No real need for the special effects either in our opinion.

Entertaining

Any additional comments?

Fun listen. It's a parody, so the story is so-so. Made my car ride more enjoyable.

Maze Bummer for sure

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It wasn't a total waste of time, i think if it would have gone a little deeper into a story it would have been better. Once i started getting into the jokes and finding it amusing, it would veer away and move onto a completely different area. I guess my head just needs a little more detail into the world for everything to be as funny as it may be for someone else. There were a few parts that made me laugh, like the blue clothes and the food thing.

Would you recommend The Maze Bummer to your friends? Why or why not?

No, i wouldn't. I can't honestly say i have a friend that would think it was as funny as it could have been with just a little longer and a little more detailed story.

Which character – as performed by Chris Brinkley – was your favorite?

I can't say i had a favorite but i did like the "runners" i thought their whole deal was pretty funny.

Do you think The Maze Bummer needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I'm not sure. It was left at a point it would be easy to continue the story, and i may listen to it to see if maybe it would get funnier to me.

Maze "runner" national lampoon style

A great parody of a great story...like most things in the national lampoons style not appropriate for listening to with my kids even though the original is kid friendly. Gave it a four for that reason. If it was cleaner it would have been 5 star. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Hilarious Send-up

Would you listen to The Maze Bummer again? Why?

Sure. It was hilarious! It took all the quirky things about the Maze Runner book and movie and skewered them. For instance the language - klunk and other words that were never really explained are used in hilarious ways. Thomas questions every little detail of this world and gets stupid answers. A few of the jokes did get overused, but it's short and worth the listen!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Thomas, of course, he's the hero.

Have you listened to any of Chris Brinkley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Never heard Chris Brinkley before. But he was great. He did all the voices/accents perfectly, and had just a hint of sarcasm in his voice that fit this book perfectly.

Worst book ever

The book was so poorly written. It was like a 2 year old wrote this book.

Don't waste your time

The narrator was surprisingly good but the the humor terrible, the first minute was the funniest part in the story but the rest of the store was just terrible and repetitive. Definitely don't waste a credit on this.
