About this listen

The Memory of an Elephant is an epic saga told by an aging African elephant as he makes a last, perilous journey to find the humans who rescued him as an orphan some fifty years ago. Interwoven with his narrative are the tumultuous lives of the family who raised and then lost him.

This timeless story is alternately heartwarming and heartbreaking, spanning east Africa, Great Britain, and New York from 1962 to 2015.

A beautiful reflection of humanity and our connection with wildlife.

This book was beyond what I had bargained for. It examines the life and times of this wondrous sentient being, his human family that saved him, and his connections with the world around him. Beautifully written. It truly feels like he is telling you his life story. The book shows how our bonds with family and friends last forever.
Most importantly this book shows how the impact of humans (good or bad) truly impacts the lives of the animals in this world we all share.
Such an amazing read.

The “truth” of the novel. The possibility!

The narration fits the story. The entire life span of an elephant in one novel.

Heartwarming and Heartbreaking

A beautifully written story highlighting the plight of elephants from poachers. Simultaneously beautifully develops characters and their life dilemmas. Portrays elephants as the brilliant, emotional creatures that they are.

Compelling and moving!

Memory of an Elephant is a wonderful novel about the fragile relationship between man and animal set primarily in the African wilderness . It grabbed me from the first chapter and brought me to tears on more than one occasion. The reader was outstanding and I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a riveting listen.
