About this listen

Adapted from Tan's best seller The Joy Luck Club.

Three sisters listen to their grandmother recount a mesmerizing childhood memory on a rainy afternoon. The long complex story, filled with danger and excitement, relates what happened when Ying-ying was seven and celebrating the Moon Festival in China. On that long-ago night of the Moon Festival, she encountered the Moon Lady, who grants the secret wishes of those who ask.

My mother gave me this book on Cassette tape when I was a child. I was then and am still an avid audio book listener. I was thrilled to find it here.

This is a great book to have your children listen to. Brings images from other lands, long and far away. Teaches many lessons.

Highly recommend

When I was little this book was in my house and I first fell in love because the illustrations ! They’re incredibly beautiful, captivating, and I didn’t quite understand it the books message but I still like it, when I got older and understood the story, I loved it even more. I remember being terrified of this but it’s such a relatable message. It’s a message that is hard to swallow and speaks to the memories of being abandoned or feeling very lonely. At the end of the story you realize she’s just a child in the world and the terror she experienced is through a child’s perspective but being frightened and feeling vulnerable is still relatable at any age! It’s very raw and touches on things that I didn’t get a lot of access to at my younger age. I think it’s great for young people to read!

I’ve loved this book through the years

I didn't pay attention to the length of this audiobook when I bought it. It is a short story. Just realize that before you download. I usually only download novels. As far as the story goes it is ok. Not really any big surprises in it or anything.

This is a short story, not a novel

This audible production was very short. Not worth the money. The music in the background was very disturbing to the listening ear.

Background music throughout the story. Very short

The music was distracting. I just wanted to hear the story not have music play in the background.
