About this listen

Psychic - check. Badass chick with a sword - check. Able to heal from deadly wounds in an instant - that's me.

But something is wrong. Something for which my years as an interrogator for the Salem Preternatural Task Force or the witches, werewolves, and vampires from whom I take orders prepared me. Someone is trying to strip me of my powers, take permanent residence in my body, kill me one demon at a time.

But I won't let them, not without a fight.

My name is Maurin Kincaide - psychometric, and this is my story.

Didn't head where I expected. Will be curious to see what happens in book 2. Nice narration.

This started out pretty good. By the end I felt the female MC could not decide if she going to be bad ass or whiney. Also, to busy with to many love interests and characters. I really wanted to, the story has so much potential. I always feel bad leaving this type review, there's a lot of hard work put into this.

There are a ton of interesting things here but I almost think there are too many ideas. There are a lot of characters that don't really contribute to the narrative and a lot concepts that probably don't need to get introduced in the first book. It's easy to lose track of what the plot is and what is there felt kind of cramped, rushed, and a little anti-climactic with the deus ex machina at the end. Still, I'd be interested in seeing more about this world if it wasn't trying so hard to cram it all in. Hoping there is more supernatural police procedural in the rest of the series. Solid read from a good narrator helped keep things from getting too confusing and kept it interesting.

Too much going on....

I wasn’t sure what to make of this tale in the beginning. Maurin Kincaide is a savvy, street-smart, trash-talking female; a psychometric by profession, working for Salem’s Preternatural Task Force (SPTF) as an interrogator. Her sassy nature reminded me of Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan character. Maurin’s paranormal abilities were on the fritz and she wasn’t sure why. She would soon leave her confusing, hum-drum life behind to join the paranormal community in a war against the Morrigna. The Morrigna; vampires called them The Triad, others knew them as “The Morrigan” or “the three Morrigna” (sisters). As we dabble in Irish mythology, the plotline becomes more complex and much more interesting. Maurin is heir to Celtic prophecy, discovering past lives as she gains newly acquired power. I like the story, although I feel the end battle is a bit overcooked. I’m unclear as to where this is going as a series, as this volume could be a stand-alone novel. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I like the idea of this book, but, it's poorly executed. There are too many ideas and characters that get lost in the overall telling of the story. I din't feel connected with any of the characters and lost interest in the book.
