About this listen

From USA Today bestselling author Debra Webb comes a thrilling installment in the Finley O’Sullivan series about a well-connected woman who stands accused of her husband’s murder. She’s innocent—unless Finley proves otherwise.

Legal investigator Finley O’Sullivan has had a difficult year in the wake of her husband’s murder. But in her line of work, there’s no time to grieve. Her job is to protect the firm’s clients and defend their innocence through grueling investigative work.

Ellen Winthrop is a force to be reckoned with in the financial world. In a male-dominated industry, she shattered the glass ceiling by empowering and promoting women. But now her husband is dead, killed in the Winthrop family home—and she stands accused of his murder.

Finley, as the investigator at the firm Ellen Winthrop hired to defend her, has a clear objective: prove that Ellen didn’t do it. But the deeper Finley digs into the Winthrops’ marriage, the more she starts to doubt Ellen’s story. The uncomfortable truth is that Ellen Winthrop may in fact have killed her husband.

And he might not have been the first.

Questions Answered. Narration Well Done

This book answered the majority of the questions I had left after reading book 1. I would not classify these books as standalones. The case that is taken one in each book is resolved, but the backstory plot starts in book one and is completed in this book.

This book was a bit more suspenseful. Some of the culprits were fairly obvious, and some that I suspected turned out to have their own twist in the story.

I did like Finley, and following her character was like taking a rollercoaster ride. Her emotions were all over the place, understandably so. I had to admire Finley's grit and determination. I liked Jack, Matt, and Houser. I grudgingly gained some respect for Ellen. The jury is still out on the judge.

Since a number of things were resolved in this book, I am looking forward to seeing what the author has in store for us in book 3. I would give this one 4.5 stars.

Never bite the hand that feeds you

This was a good follow up to the first book.
Finley had nine lives because she found herself in the wildest situations. Ellen Winthrop was a smart woman and was calculated in how she moved. Jessica and Lena's karma got them in the end. Loved the book!

I’m so glad

I thought books one was great, this book raises the bar. I really couldn’t put it down. I’m so glad I went with my gut and started this series. I look for books with strong women characters and Finley O’Sullivan is most definitely that. Love the narrator, she is perfect for Finley. Excellent job, thank you.

Definitely captivating!

The past year has been tough on Finley O’Sullivan…her husband was murdered and she was assaulted. Then she lost her job as an ADA. Now she is recovering…working as an investigator for her godfather’s law firm…and they have a doozy of a case! Representing a wealthy financial investment broker, whose new husband has been murdered. This case seems to parallel Finley’s life, but as she investigates, Finley finds lots of discrepancies. She’s also out for revenge against the man responsible for her husband’s death. Lots going on in this story that keep you captive. Loved the ending!!

I love authors like Debra Webb

She is intelligent, does her research, writes well, creates well-defined characters, creates complicated plots and well thought out resolutions and conclusions. This conclusion hints of a follow-up book. I can’t wait.
