About this listen

Nat Cassidy, author of the acclaimed horror Mary, returns with When the Wolf Comes Home, an unabashed, adrenaline-fueled pop horror thriller where the darkest fears can become reality.

“This is the kind of great, big, epic horror novel we got back in the '80s that came out swinging for the fences and left everything on the field. Welcome back, you shaggy, bloody monster of a book!”—Grady Hendrix

Critic reviews

"When The Wolf Comes Home is a sharp-edged metaphor for trauma and rage, for how they seep into us, how we carry them in us and how sometimes, we pass them on like a curse."—Cassandra Khaw, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Nothing But Blackened Teeth

When the Wolf Comes Home is an imaginative, adrenaline-fueled wild ride through the babysitting job from Hell. Brims with both horror and heart.”—Tananarive Due, author of The Reformatory

"I finished reading the book about a week ago, and it keeps sliding back into my thoughts and conversations. ... Wolf carries with it a harrowing inevitability. The feeling you get, maybe, when one enters the Twilight Zone, and you just know things will be different now. ... Nat Cassidy has tapped into something with this one: it's the mood all us readers are always digging for: the Truth, a truth, his truth... the sort of truth you add to your own.”—Josh Malerman, New York Times Best Selling author of Bird Box and Incidents Around the House

Excellent all the way up to the end. After such a excellent, and dramatic storyline, I wanted a more dramatic end!!!! but I thoroughly enjoyed the writers narrative in the end.

things in your past can be so real we imagine a different way to be and cope. this book was in the horror genre but also could be nonfiction as our past is never fully buried.

Wow. I really liked Nestlings. Mary was good, but this is far and beyond my favorite of the trio I’ve read by Nat Cassidy. I didn't want it to end, but I couldn't stop to reading it. I was very attached to Jessa and the boy. Her character was incredibly fleshed out and real. And likeable. Maybe there's a way to reprise her out of the nothingness? The narrator was perfect too. Ordered the paperback. I will definitely be reading this one again and again. I wish there could be some kind of sequel… just saying. Gosh, I did not see that ending coming.

This is a #%!?ing masterpiece.

I actually related quite a bit and enjoyed the analogy of shape shifting fathers/fear from rage. It was weird but I liked it well enough and really love Nat's writing. Can't wait for the next book!

Interesting take on fathers/trauma

The horror aspects were great. Lots of twists. All together an awesome read. The reader did a good job as well.

I fell in love with his book Mary which is probably my all time favorite book. I enjoyed Nestlings but not as much. When the Wolf Comes Home was a home run immediately. Story and narrator kept me intrigued from beginning to end. Fantastic and a nice twist on the idea of werewolves and shapeshifters. Highly recommend!

Good right out of the gate!

Not my favorite of his works, but still well above average. The ending really got me, and his afterthought wrecked my heart for my own personal reasons. Thank you again Nat Cassidy for a wonderful horrific and heart wrenching escape.

Nat Cassidy continues to be my favorite

This book was so exciting! Every moment had me hanging on the edge! You know a book is good when you don’t want it to end…this is that book! Thanks for the AZ connection.

This is a beautiful, bloody, tragic story. There is such depth here to appreciate. I listened to this while flying and when the wolf crashes through the woods, the plane hit some turbulence. It was glorious. Lol The story was very good, but the Afterward is my favorite part. I appreciate the candor, and as an author myself, I appreciate the courage. It was vulnerable, raw, and well articulated. It resonated with me at a time when I needed to hear it. Thank you.

So much more than horror
