About this listen

George Friedman, founder of Stratfor, has become a leading expert in geopolitical forecasting, sought after for his thoughtful assessments of current trends and near-future events.

In The Next 100 Years, Friedman turns his eye on the future. Drawing on a profound understanding of history and geopolitical patterns dating back to the Roman Empire, he shows that we are now, for the first time in half a millennium, experiencing the dawn of a new historical cycle.

Critic reviews

"A unique combination of cold-eyed realism and boldly confident fortune-telling....Whether all of the visions in Friedman's crystal ball actually materialize, they certainly make for engrossing entertainment." ( Publishers Weekly)

Excellent knowledge of his topic and exceptional understanding of geopolitics. If you are looking for an unbiased analysis of the facts and driving forces that shape the world, this is the book you need. Truely fantastic read.

I love this book not because of the predictions or projections of the world of geopolitics in the next 100 years, but that Friedman is bold enough to make them. In fact, I disagree with a great many of his forecasts, but I congratulate him on writing the book to compel me to consider what I believe are more likely scenarios, and therefore I give this book a high recommendation for its power to generate critical thinking on the part of the reader. For this book is a stimulus to sit and write down a counterpoint to items in which I strongly disagree, and more importantly "the why."

Again, Friedman gives us his best shot (a good one) regarding the tendencies of a populated planet. Sweeping and at the same time humble in his assessments, the reader senses responsible opinions and, as such, they are acceptable and absorbable into his own frame of reference. In other words, the book is quite excellent.

perspicacity - ability to draw sound conclusions

This is a highly entertaining work of popular science. At times it is thought provoking, and at times funny. The farther into the century the author gets, the less rooted in facts the narrative becomes. As one should expect.

The writing is easy and flows well, the narrator does a good job and is pleasant to listen to.

Made me buy the book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and while I didn't agree with all the author's assertions his opinions were rational and well reasoned.

Excellent reasoned prognostication for our nation.

His was an interesting perspective on the future, the economic and social predictions seemed realistic, the predicted wars seemed a little far fetched but over all it was interesting and often times fun to listen to.

Interesting sometimes a little far fetched
