About this listen

Ninth-century Norway, the dawn of the Viking era - a land shattered into 30 warring kingdoms. A woman could seize power, if she was bold enough.

Daughter of a Norse king, 15-year-old Åsa dreams of becoming a shield-maiden. When she spurns a powerful warlord, he rains hellfire on her family, slaughtering her father and brother and taking her captive. To protect her people, Åsa must wed her father's killer. To take vengeance, she must become his queen.

Good narration - story a bit childish

I found this book on Amazon under Viking romance, but was disappointed to find what little romance was there was minimal and very immature. Interesting cultural details. Narration was good except for male voices.

Perfect structure for Audio Reading.

warning - Cliff Hanger Ending
proclaiming - moves fast, good visual storytelling, beautiful character development.
mixed - nation and female voices are great, but male characters voices kinda week. for future books I would love to see a male sounding voice actor just for the male dialogue. But it's crucible to keep the female narrator. it adds a lot to the perspective.
highly recommend and I am super eager for book two!

disappointing

Maybe following Melanie Karsak doomed this story from the beginning. First audible I have no interest in continuing.

Disney princess goes biking

The narrator speaks as though she were a school teacher reading to children. And her voice intonations in her “man” voice was almost intolerable. Story itself was quite predictable. I usually love this genre but not this one.

Couldn’t follow

The story takes off running with so many characters with weird names and I couldn’t track with the story.
