About this listen

A world of magic, desire, and intrigue awaits at Flighthaven, where a young woman defies the odds to find her true calling.

Nineteen-year-old Lark Axton has lived her entire life sequestered behind the castle's walls, overshadowed by her overprotective mother. Now, the king has ordered Lark to assume her missing sister’s role as a warrior in training at Aclaris’s flight academy, where the kingdom's sons and daughters train to battle their winged enemies and control dragons.

There’s just one problem. Lark is terrified of flying.

Forced to the deadly training grounds of Flighthaven, Lark must survive the danger that stalks the academy if she wants to uncover the truth behind her sister’s disappearance and survive the upcoming treacherous trial. Unfortunately, her sinfully irresistible, arrogant and downright irritating flight instructor is determined to make her life hell.

But enemies lurk within the academy, and no one is who they seem, including Lark herself. As the trial begins, the same explosive secrets that tore Lark's sister away from Flighthaven now threaten Lark.

With her life hanging in the balance, Lark's ability to unlock the secret magic within her will either save...or kill her.

Kingdom of Shadows and Wings weaves the thrill of dragons, elemental magic, and forbidden romance into an exhilarating fantasy adventure that’s perfect for fans of Fourth Wing and Zodiac Academy.

The story was good. I enjoyed it. The computer generated narration was terrible. It was difficult to tell when a male or female was speaking because there was no change in the sound of the voice. The computer voice just did not have the cadence, timber, and inflections of a human voice. When it comes to audio books, a good narrator is everything. It makes the story telling of the book exceptional. Please make an investment in your future books by hiring a great narrator. I understand the desire to get your book out on Audible as soon as possible. Please don’t cheapen the quality of your books by hiring poor narrators. I won’t be purchasing any audiobooks that use computer generated narration.

Don’t Use Computer Generated Narration. It makes a great story sound terrible.

The story itself is fairly good, but my biggest dislikes are like other reviews, the AI. The use of AI is just a reminder that there are just things that a human being should do. As a result it lacks luster when listening to the story. My other dislike is the use of profanity. We hear it so much in everything else we watch or read….there were no other words the writer could use to express the feelings; it just doesn’t fit the setting of the story.

Pro and Cons

In the beginning, I was really impressed with the AI narration. As the book went on, it seems like they stopped quality control checking it. Mispronounced words and strange inflections in the voice certainly took away from the story.

AI Voice is awful, story is okay

The story is pretty good. However, the AI voice ruined the book for me. I would give this book another chance if there were an appropriate narrator.

DON’T USE AI VOICE!!!

The ending made me want to throw my phone
It needed more unless there is another book I'm missing.

virtual voice is not enjoyable

The virtual voice on this was so bad I could not listen to it after the 3rd chapter, I think using the voice is just a cheap way out, barely one step up from text to speech. Maybe for some that voice won't annoy you, good luck with that. I'm going to read the Kindle book so I can give an honest review of the story.

Narration was horrible
