About this listen

Former FBI agent Sean Kruger has reconciled with his forced retirement and moved on to join his friends Sandy Knoll and Jimmie Gibbs in their private defense contractor firm. He is now in high demand as a fraud investigator.

When two insurance executives make a surprise visit to Kruger’s home office, he is asked to look into the disappearance of a 150-million-dollar diamond display from a museum in Chicago. Clues are non-existent, but with the help of JR Diminski, Kruger soon learns there is more to the theft than just the value of the diamonds. As the evidence unfolds, he will cross paths with one of the most ominous psychopaths he has ever encountered. A man totally uninhibited by the norms of society and hell-bent on becoming the richest man in the world. Regardless of who gets in his way.

Filled with well-crafted characters and ruthless adversaries, The Ominous Trail may be the best Sean Kruger story to date. Don’t start this book late at night…if you want to sleep.

Excellent

As usual. Great story. Great narration. Only problem is being required to use a certain number of words for a review. Boo Hiss

Great story; not-so-great narration

Come on with the women’s voices - and even most of the men’s - NOBODY talks that way! The cadence and inflection and weird accents are just atrocious and sound so unnatural. Totally distracting. If I didn’t love the Sean Kruger series, I would have stopped before finishing chapter 2. I’ve listened to every book in the series and keep hoping the narration will improve, but I think it’s getting worse. Please author and editors - you have to hear how awful this is - fix it for the next one.

Excellent book

I have listened to a lot of series and this is one of the best. Can’t wait for the next book.

The Ominous Trail

The big problem with a Sean Kruger book by J.C. Fields is that it's next to impossible to stop listening, especially with Paul McSorley as narrator. This latest book is no exception. In fact, I was still listening to it in bed at 2 AM this morning. The only downside is I now have to wait for his next Sean Kruger book.

Dialogue is Terrible

The dialogue is too grammatically perfect and nobody's word choice is different. Also, too many people knows everyone else "too well."

One more thing, nobody cares how many times the phone rang before it was answered.
