About this listen
Be careful who you fall for...
Robbie and Trevor Cresmont have a body count—the killer kind. Handsome and privileged, the Crestmont brothers have enough wealth to ensure they’ll never be found guilty of any wrongdoing, even if all of Happy Valley believes they're behind the deaths of their ex-girlfriends. First there was soccer star Victoria Moreno, Robbie’s ex, who mysteriously drowned at the family lake house. Then, a year later, Trevor’s girlfriend died of a suspicious overdose.
But the Crestmonts aren’t the only ones with secrets. Lauren O'Brian might be the new girl at school, but she's never been a good girl. With a dark past of her own, she's desperate for a fresh start. Except when she starts a no-strings-attached relationship with Robbie, her chance is put in jeopardy. During what’s meant to be their last weekend together, Lauren stumbles across shocking evidence that just might implicate Robbie.
With danger closing in, Lauren doesn't know who to trust. And after a third death rocks the town, she must decide whether to end things with Robbie or risk becoming another cautionary tale.
This is an edge-of-your-seat debut YA thriller about a teen who is forced to confront her past in order to catch a murderer before she ends up the next victim. Perfect for fans of Karen McManus and Holly Jackson.

Story
The fire wasn’t Marlowe Wexler’s fault. Dates should be hot, but not hot enough to warrant literal firefighters. Akilah, the girl Marlowe has been in love with for years, will never go out with her again. No one dates an accidental arsonist. With her house-sitting career up in flames, it seems the universe owes Marlowe a new summer job, and that’s how she ends up at Morning House, a mansion built on an island in the 1920s and abandoned shortly thereafter. It’s easy enough, giving tours. Low risk of fire. High chance of getting bored talking about stained glass and nut cutlets and Prohibition.

I don’t want the perfect marriage. I want revenge… If you had met me a year ago, you wouldn’t have noticed me. A beautiful woman, but a struggling nobody in a tiny apartment, invisible… Meeting Paul changed that. And now here I am in Paris, after a whirlwind courtship and a stunning beach proposal I smile at my handsome husband, my eyes shining in the candlelight, my huge diamond ring sparkling on the starched white tablecloth. Other women look at me in envy. They see a couple completely in love.

Story
For the New Orleans elite, the Les Masques Ball is sure to be the social event of the season—if they can avoid another dead Queen. When debutante Margot Landry was found dead the morning after her reign at last year’s ball, it was a tragedy, but not a shocking one. Margot was a wild child with a self-destructive streak, nothing like this year’s Queen, Lily LeBlanc. With a perfectly poised debutante on the throne, everything is going according to plan…until the ball is hijacked by a mysterious figure in a Jester costume.

Good mystery thriller
Lauren is about to start her senior year of high-school after moving from California to Pennsylvania. There was a scandal around Lauren at her last high-school and her Mom feels that a new start would do Lauren good. Plus Lauren's Mom can be near her long distance boyfriend.
Lauren is afraid to make new friends, because of a history that is slowly revealed. She does start a relationship with a boy, Robbie, who volunteers at her Mom's medical clinic job.
When Lauren's new soccer team warn her away from Robbie, Lauren makes some pretty stupid choices. Robbie and Trevor Cresmont are the community pariahs. Each of the brothers had a girlfriend die under suspicious circumstances. Yet Lauren agrees to spend a weekend with Robbie and lie to her Mom about where she would be. Lauren at times is overly harsh with her mother and self-centered.
Despite this beginning, I ended up enjoying the story. Lauren finds something, during her weekend with Robbie and his family and from there she starts digging in to what really happened. I had an idea, from the very beginning, who the killer of both girls was. It was the same conclusion Lauren and her eventual friends felt drawn to. We were all wrong.

A YA Mystery Suspense That Keeps You Turning The Pages!!
I really enjoyed this!! A YA MYSTERY/SUSPENSE that I really enjoyed!! I think this is the author’s debut book and it is a great debut!! These poor kids went through so much, and I really felt for them. The characters were complex and you didn’t know who to believe. But the ending was really great! The villain was a surprise, I guessed it just before it was revealed!! I’ll be watching for more from Lundy!!
The narration is excellent!

Phenomenal debut
THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY WITH MURDER is the best YA mystery/thriller I’ve read in recent memory.
Trish Lundy grabbed me from the first sentence and I’m still thinking about the nonstop intrigue.
My suspect list kept changing as the possibilities of privilege, wealth and access had a number of plausible suspect. The person was someone I suspected midway through, but since I also strongly suspected two other people I can’t say I guessed.
I hope Lundy writes quickly because I’m ready for her follow up.

teen drama wrapped up in murder
Interesting story that was full of teen drama. Main character, Lauren, moves to new town eager to escape a troubled past and immediately hooks up with a boy haunted by similar rumors of deviance. But did he really kill the ex-girlfriend? Engaging story overall, but characters seemed too easily experienced in adult issues and addiction. The plot was less of a detective story and more of a trying to sort out life story.

Too convoluted
This was confusing a lot. I felt that at times there were too many side plots that were unnecessary and only confused me further. It felt like the other was doing this on purpose to throw off the readers but it was poorly executed and so the book really suffered. Kinda feel like it was a waste of my time cuz nothing felt resolved at the end of the story.
