About this listen

Determined to prove her worth as a budding archeologist, Genisse Braxton vows to solve one of the world's greatest mysteries - to find the location of the lost city of Zerzura. Unfortunately, no man dares take the risk of escorting the resolute young scholar across the open desert. But on her way to Egypt, Genisse engages in a daring deception - she will switch places with Mildred Whimpelhall, who is traveling to meet her fiancé.

Cynical adventurer Jim Owen will do anything to escape the dark secrets of his troubled past. Betrayed by the woman he loved, scorned by proper society, he agrees to carry out a danger-fraught task: escort Mildred Whimpelhall across a lawless desert to her intended. But Jim is about to learn that "Mildred" isn't exactly what she seems... and the dangers they face together are eclipsed only by an even greater peril: falling in love, against all reason, with another guy's bride.

Great Book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It had strong main characters and interesting secondary characters. It was adventurous and a bit quirky. It had an authentic feel to it.

What other book might you compare The Other Guy's Bride to and why?

A bit like the Amelia Peabody (Elizabeth Peters) series with a bit of Stephanie Laurnes thrown in.

Have you listened to any of Justine Eyre’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I have heard Justine and I think she suited the story well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I didn't want it to end.

Any additional comments?

This was my first audiobook purchase and I was a bit unsure after reading the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it all. This is a book I will keep as a favorite and listen to again.
I will definitely read the next Connie Brockway book.

MAGICAL !

I loved this book. It has all the elects to make a successful audiobook. The story was magical! Set in Egypt gave the whole story an aura of magic that really caprures you. The story has the right balance between romance and suspense. The characters were really really captivating, the hero is one of the best Hero characters ever created in historical romance. Sexy yet funny, tough yet humble. Loved him!
And finally the narration. Justine Eyre was MAGNIFICENT ! She was really really good ! She has a rich sensuous voice to begin with. But her performance keeps getting better and better . She brought the story to life as if you are watching a movie with your eyes closed :)
Excellent book I highly recommend it :)

some cheese to go with the whine

the story was okay. I felt the heroin find an awful lot throughout the entire story. I know all about building up misunderstandings to move a story along but this was a bit overmuch. also, the narration for the hero was horrible. It was whining, feminine, and at times sounded Irish instead of American. the heroines voice was very snobbish to me. overall I think it might be better if you read the story instead of getting the audible.

Coulda' been better..

Any additional comments?

For all you history lovers out there this book is for you! I don't mind a little history with my romance but this was way to much.
And to the reviewer who said Ginny was TSTL I think you're wrong. Ginny was a little goofy and a little clumsy and that's what made her so likable. And I really liked Jim.
The secondary characters were great: Haji, Jock, Magi, Mildred and (sorta) Pomfrey.
Over all it was a good romance, good sexual tension, good sex BUT there was just too much history. I know a lot of you will be interested in what was happening in Egypt at the turn of the century but that's not for me.

As to the narrator: This is the first time I've been disappointed in Ms. Eyre. She does all the British accents just fine, male and female, but she can't seem to do an American male. It's like she can do one or the other, male voice or American accent but she can't do both.
Oh, well, I've listened to a lot of books by her and they were all great so I won't hold this one against her.

IT WOULD MAKE A GREAT FILM

What a surprise 'coz I hadn't heard of the writer - but it was an entertaining and funny lighthearted listen that sucks you in from the start - most enjoyable.

Worth a credit? Absolutely YES

Delightfully funny, wonderfully narrated

This is a wonderfully written light romance that had me chuckling frequently. Connie Brockway's humour is very subtle, but it is shined brightly with Justine Eyre's excellent narration. This was my first time listening to Justine Eyre and I was just blown away by how beautifully she did her job. Not only was her reading clear and paced just right, she seemed to really enjoy performing the roles of the various characters. After just finishing another audio book where the narrator seemed to want to be anywhere but reading, this was a very welcome change. What a delight! I'd be more than happy to sit and listen to the entire book again immediately.

Thoroughly recommended and I'll be seeking out more books by both the author and the narrator.

City Lost Romance Found

The book was charming. The settings delightful. I could see the wadi, feel that I was there. It was like a classic romance from the twenties. Well, with a little steamier sex. What it lacked in realism it made up in sheer entertainment. I enjoyed the appeal of the characters. I have already recommended this book to a friend. I did that before I had finished listening to it. I feel that I have found a new author to enjoy.

A Sweet Romantic Adventure.

When I started listening to this book I thought the characters had a lot of similarities to the main characters of the movie The Mummy. This is fun romantic adventure through the Egypt's desert, I enjoyed this book quite a bit and would be willing to try other books written by Connie Brockway, especially if they come on sale. I had quite a few chuckles at the antics that Genisse would get up to and who doesn't like a dashing if not dented hero to come to the rescue. I also liked how Genisse learned to like herself no matter what others said about her. Narrator does a good job, her English accent is pleasant to listen to.
