About this listen

With Baer Creighton hidden inside a mountain, Stinky Joe survives the wild Flagstaff winter alone. But with first melt, he succumbs to warm broth and sleeping pills, placed at the doorstep of a scheming prostitute at the vortex of a politician looking for an issue, a money-launderer wielding leverage, and his 83 year old meth-dealing target.

Stinky Joe learned as a pup: don’t ever bite a man. He’ll beat you near death. But cornered in a bath tub by a pothead with a gun, Joe goes outlaw.

Within hours the best and worst of Flagstaff are mobile. Sheriff’s deputies, the meth dealer and his tracking dog, news crews, and Baer Creighton-with the FBI after him, seeking vengeance for yet another agent down. Joe has survived the wild, but civilized man is a different kind of devil. Wounded, hunted, and holed up, there’s no way out for The Outlaw Stinky Joe.

Prepare yourself for a battle of good and evil unlike any you've seen. Another excellent installment in the Baer Creighton series. Baer and his trusty best friend Stinky Joe are separated, and we get to follow each of their paths as they weave their way back to each other. Along the way we meet another gloriously wild cast of characters that only Clayton Lindemuth could conjure: the aging meth dealer and his psycho sons, the 400-lb prostitute with a heart of gold, and more. The story is tight and twisty, as once again we wonder how our favorite antihero is going to get out of the pickle he finds himself in. Another excellent, entertaining read. And of course, narrator Kain Foster is once again on his "A" game.

I love Clayton’s writing style and tone. You’re drawn in immediately and left unable to walk away until the last page. Please don’t stop writing!

This was my first time listening to this author and I am so glad I did! Great storyline, great characters, and the narrator - LOVED HIM!! And Stinky Joe....loved him too. I laughed and gasped alot throughout this book. I had to go back and buy the Baer Creighton series. It's worth it! I can't wait to hear more from Baer, Sinder, May, Stinky Joe, Shirely and Tatitana!

Either you get it or you don't. "Grit lit," indeed. The author's use of language is the best I've seen so far in noir literature, or anywhere else for that matter. His philosophical point of view is stark and matches mine. It's probable many won't relate to it. But it scratches every itch I have when it comes to noir. I'll try not to overdose on it.

The narrator's voices get a little oleaginous at times (à la Sam Elliott), but hey, I'll take it,.

As with rich desserts, I'll have to pace myself

Is there a way to give six stars?
