I had never heard of this series but I wanted to read some of Tim's work because of all the hype he gets from other authors. I have no idea how this doesn't have hundreds of five star reviews. It had everything I wanted in a story; Relatable characters that you can root for, amazing descriptions of monsters, mystery, battles with some of the most vivid descriptions of gore that I have ever read. If you have been searching for a diamond in the rough, here it is. I'm excited to read the rest of the series.

Criminally underrated.

Loved the mythology and world. Could see the influences of England, Scotland, and France as well as the Catholic Church but it was never off putting.
Characters really became their own and all got to shine at some point.
I liked that people actually died in the war, a great story.
My only complaint is the author uses the phrase "he said" far too often and the way the speaker pronounces it gets grating.

The Pagan Night is character-driven epic fantasy with rich and consistent world building with multiple fully formed and well thought out religions. Akers has created an engaging cast of characters behaving the way real people do--mistakes and all. Even though this is epic fantasy, the pace never falters, and when I reached the end I wanted the next book immediately!

The narration is solid and engaging. I hope they use the same narrator for the next two books in the series.
